So, I threw $50 towards a Slate reservation. https://www.slate.auto
This is exactly what I want in an EV. Minimalist setup. Simple. No constant monitoring/selling data. No giant proprietary screen to break. No subscriptions. Simple. Small (3600lbs). Capable of hauling my partner and I, plus our dog and gear (for camping, forestry work, repair jobs, whatever). 250 mile range (on the extended battery). Simple.
The performance sucks (8s 0-60 in an EV is pretty shit) and the RWD-only platform is lame (no winter driving here). But this would otherwise be a solid choice for us, assuming they can meet the promised price point. I see myself getting the hatchback SUV option and rear seats, which would give us the flexibility to configure for hauling or passengers (and dog).
I'd love to see what maker communities could do with the platform. I have some ideas just from the promotional renders!
