Thilo<p>On the tooling side, we are not using any special <a href="https://mastodontech.de/tags/PairProgramming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PairProgramming</span></a> software yet, and I have a hunch that we won't.</p><p>You can get very far with very little friction with just screen sharing over a <a href="https://mastodontech.de/tags/Slack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Slack</span></a> huddle. We can talk to each-other, both see what the "driver" is seeing, we cannot type into the editor at the same time, but the "watcher" can draw on the screen.</p>

Stuart Longland (VK4MSL)<p>The writing was on the wall for a good few years, but it looks like my workplace is going to eventually say goodbye to <a href="https://mastodon.longlandclan.id.au/tags/Slack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Slack</span></a> and borg everyone into the parent company's Office365 system including <a href="https://mastodon.longlandclan.id.au/tags/Teams" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Teams</span></a>.</p><p>I'm no fan of Slack, actually I hate anything that requires me to run a proprietary client … XMPP and IRC spoiled me I guess. We used to be on Atlassian's Hipchat, which I similarly despised but it did at least understand XMPP … initially that's exactly how I connected to it.</p><p>However, Atlassian shut down Hipchat in 2016-17 or so… and the recommended replacement was Slack so over we went.</p><p><a href="https://bugs.gentoo.org/895890" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">bugs.gentoo.org/895890</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> suggests Microsoft *did* have a client (Electron-based if I recall correctly) but have since pulled it.</p><p>The good news is I've been told that Copilot is disabled for our workplace instance. (Hopefully it stays that way.)</p><p>I'd rather not tie up a browser tab just for the sake of a chat client. Does anyone know of a third-party open-source client for Microsoft Teams? Beeper I think was mentioned in relation to Slack … might investigate that… but I'm open to other options too.</p>
