I should have known more about the history of the #SinclairC5 and how it’s associated with the #MerthyrTydfil Hoover factory, but it still caught me by surprise to see a specimen in a castle in #Wales.

discovering that fewer cybertrucks have been sold than Sinclair C5s has amused me greatly. and honestly, if you want to drive a weird vehicle, the C5 is far more fun.

Yesterday @JorvikAngler mentioned the Sinclair C5 so I thought I’d better add it to this sequence on three-wheeled vehicles. Like the Morgan EV3 prototype I posted yesterday, the 1985 C5 was a white British electric three-wheeler but there the resemblance ends. Highlights - Lotus chassis, ‘under-thigh’ handlebars, single 12V lead acid battery for claimed twenty mile range. Pedals as back-up. Pics taken: #NationalMotorMuseum Beaulieu, 2023.

We went today to the Espoo Car museum. I haven't been there, and it's not really my cup of tea, but it was still interesting.
They had a Sinclar C5 among other things! Also I took pictures of some of the interesting ones.

Back in 1985, Sir Clive Sinclair introduced a three-wheeled seated electric vehicle called the Sinclair C5. (His firm was also responsible for an early home computer that was popular in the UK in the '80s, called the ZX-Spectrum.)
It was very low cost, and powered by peddles or a rechargeable battery (see the video clip below). But at the time it was released, it was dismissed as a toy.
As usual, the risk of cars crashing into it was seen as a problem with the C5, rather than a problem with the cars. The UK lacked barrier-separated bike lanes.
But in 2022, it looks like a product 40 years ahead of its time. In fact, if it were released today, it looks like the kind of thing you'd almost expect @notjustbikes might make a video about.
So is it time to reconsider the Sinclair C5?
