If I want to test out some Snap Store stuff but am on Fedora Silverblue… should I even attempt that, or just spin up an Ubuntu VM/install Ubuntu on another machine?

To be clear about my use case: I’m not looking to actually use Snap apps on alongside other apps on Silverblue, so nice integration is not important; I just want to check out how things are presented and progressing over in the world of the Snap store/App Center thing.

All the countless hours spent on the :linux: #Linux Desktop Migration Tool are finally paying off! My wife got a new laptop yesterday. I installed :fedora: #Fedora #Silverblue on it, created a user account, connected it to the home network, and left the migration tool running overnight. She could start using the new laptop without any interruption in the morning, and the whole thing took like 15 minutes of my time.

Hey #linux users. Please boost.

I maintain (remotely) ~10 linux laptops for a client. I've used #ubuntu LTS for years because they don't need anything fancy, stability is more important that bang-up-to-dateness. But I've gone off Ubuntu because of #snaps and it increasingly pushing adverts/pro-services.

Anyone got any experience with remote admin-ing and maintaining linux laptops? Would prefer #gnome based.

I'm aready running Ungoogled Chromium in OpenBSD, and I just installed the Flatpak in Fedora Silverblue. I'm kind of happy to start out with a clean slate of bookmarks and extensions (don't have any at present).

This browser will be for personal use — as a Firefox replacement.

I'm pretty much transitioning away from using my personal gear for the day job, though I still have regular Google Chrome for that.

I have been running a Fedora Atomic system for more than 2 years. It's been mostly Silverblue with a short detour into and out of Kinoite. I like the flexibility of being able to rebase.

I enjoyed Kinoite, but there were a few papercut-level things that sent me back to Silverblue.

While Silverblue hasn't always been as trouble-free as I'd like, I'm hopeful for calmer times ahead.

@roman78 and that's pretty close to what I got, since #Bazzite is based off of #Ublue, which in turn is based off of #Fedora #Silverblue.

Now I'm running the standard workstation edition of Fedora - since I plan to promote it to the average user. Gotta run it myself before I can do that.

But, having used Silverblue for several years - until #NixOS - I can say that #immutable operating systems is the future.

But #Flatpak and #Flathub have some kinks to work out before that is the case - IMHO.
