Last week, I joined 3,200 digital rights activists, tech policymakers, researchers and co. representatives in Taipei at #RightsCon.

Doge's budget cuts were a big topic of convo.

But something else kept coming up: it’s not just the funding cuts that's presenting "existential challenges" to tech + rights, it's that the USgov has gone from taking the leading role in supporting an open/safe internet to leading in dismantling it.

At #Rightscon @Andreea of @edri emphasised how technosolutionism got entangled with the Green Deal: "Whenever you have a problem, 'digital' will become attached as a solution that would help you solve that. As if in order to achieve green transition, we need the digital transition.".

Interesting discussion about issues with consent in this panel "Exploring the relationship between privacy, data protection, and democratic rights" - I don't think issue is consent, however, so much as manipulation or circumvention of consent and lack of transparency, deceptive patterns.
