Flügel der Leichtigkeit

Majestätisch ruht der Admiral auf einem leuchtend grünen Blatt. Seine markanten orange-roten Bänder und die weißen Flecken auf den dunklen Flügeln strahlen im Kontrast zum satten Grün der Natur. Ein stiller Moment voller Farbenpracht und Leichtigkeit.

We had a blast of summer yesterday, & with it an influx of butterflies into our garden. I was excited to see the only Painted Lady this year, & a Red Admiral - both species Vanessa. I got my phone out & got a quick shot. But when Iooked at the photo the Painted Lady isn’t there! The butterfly here is definitely a Comma!? Maybe the Painted Lady flew off seconds before I pointed my camera?

Today we took a few photos of #butterflies in our own garden. Native species like #smalltortoiseshell or #redadmiral enjoy the nectar of a #waterdust, we enjoy their beauty.

Spotted the first* Red Admiral butterfly this year on the thistles but it was gone before I could grab the camera, so here's an older artwork with one.

*Been sick for a couple weeks so haven't been out much except tending to the critters. I'm sure more of them are about.

Update #Raupenzucht, erneut eine Raupe vom #admiral #VanessaAtalanta gefunden, die kaum noch Brennnesseln zum weiterfressen hatte. Im Zuchtkasten kann sie sich an neuen Brennnesseln zum Schmetterling entwickeln.
Update #caterpillar breeding, found another #redadmiral caterpillar that had hardly any nettles left to feed on. In the breeding box it can develop into a butterfly on new nettles.

My daily lepidopterological (is that a new word?) activities are truly picking up, as of yesterday.
#InMyGarden not one, not two, but three butterfly species visited me, and two of them gave me the stare: a Red Admiral and a Small White. The third one - a male Orange Tip - was too busy flitting about to look around.
