Galactic Man
A special post-retirement Deskbot today! My nom de guerre has expanded beyond this lowly account to become something of a secondary identity of late, so I decided to celebate by grabbing the Transformers Generations Selects release, Galactic Man Shockwave, that homaged Shockwave's ancient, pre-Transformers origins as the Astro Magnum/Spark Man/Galactic Man toy of legend. :decepticon:

Photos below, and in the follow-up post.

As seems more common these days, I consider GM as his own bot rather than just grey Shockwave. But what personality would he have? Still coldly logical, more machine than robotic being? Another name for the toy was Spark Man. Sparks in TF lore are Souls, so...Soul Man? Is he a loose, jivving hepcat like Scatman Crothers or James "Spark Brother" Brown? He bears no insignia so what is his alignment, Chaotic Neutral? Such fun!

That red eye tho...😍 Wow, Shockwave really lost out being given a yellow one.

1/2

#Deskbot #Transformers #Photoygraphy #GalacticMan #Shackwave #AstroMagnum #SparkMan

Galactic Man
#Deskbots today is this #AlmostThere set of obscure little buggers, three-quarters of the Deluxe Insecticons!

The thug (Barrage, green rhino beetle), the Thief (Chop Shop, brown stag beetle) and the asshole (Ransack, black and yellow locust) only await their fourth member, and overall Insecticon leader if you believe the original Tech Specs, Venom. Galactic Man looks at Hasbro impatiently.

Chop Shop has seen a couple of latter day Generations releases at smaller scales (the tiny targetmaster one is adorable) but he's now in the correct "Deluxe" toy scale alongside first-time-since-the-originals Ransack and Barrage. Them being called Deluxe Insecticons in the OG toyline had nothing to do with toy scale so them being in that size class now is merely a massive, very pleasing coincidence.

All three hail from exclusive harder-to-find sets (I had to buy Choppy and Barrage from America) so my dreadfully abused wallet can only cry with PTSD (Purchase Trauma Stress Disorder) wondering what they'll do releasing poor old Venom.

#Transformers #Insecticons #Hasbro #Photoygraphy

Galactic Man
Follow-ups to two posts today! It's mash-up Monday!

Check this out:

I commented on Agent Knight's similarity to Overdrive in my review post but seeing them together really hammers the point home. Both being the same scale really helps too.

Agent Knight would make an awesome Omnibot! No "double-master" weaponised vehicle mode but he's a car model from exactly the same time period, can drive without a visible driver and does vehicular stunts like Autobots can.

Am also wondering if Knight here might be a sneaky upscaled (or not) pre-tool of Overdrive. The changes you would need to make are so minimal, well within light retool budgets....they even have similar heads!

Go on, Hasbro. You know I want you to.

Also pictured, the two boxes that Overdrive and Downshift came in, with that little "tryptych" surprise in the artwork. 😍

#Deskbots #80sBots #Transformers #Photoygraphy #KnightRider #OmniBots #Tryptych #TryptychCon

Galactic Man
Pathfinder finally finding her way into (modern) Transformers representation is a moment of joy.

The blue suits this Cosmos mold better than the green, I think. #GobotBias

Transformation is finely poised between simple and interesting. I especially love how bam!-economical the heel design is.

Alt mode still looks hilariously like a cook pot on a travel stove but this is a legacy of Cosmos' cartoon-based design aethetic that I can easily forgive, mostly because I love to laugh. For anyone unfamiliar: it is meant to be a UFO. #BestDisguiseEver

Cosmos came with a flag because of a weirdly race-themed selection of toys (see: Speedia) -race as in competitive sport- but here it proudly displays the Gobot Guardians logo for the first time on a toy since, what, the 80s? Galactic Man
Tonight, in a very special <del>Blossom</del> #Deskbot

Transformers Collaborative mashes popular film and TV properties into the Transformers brand. We've had Ghostbusters (Ectotron), Back to the Future (Gigawatt), X-Men (X-panse) and even Stranger Things (Code Red). Now it's the turn of KNIGHT RIDER!

If you're going to make a popular franchise vehicle into a robot the Knight Industries Two Thousand (K.I.T.T) is probably everyone's natural first choice: he talked, he drove himself...clearly a Robot in Disguise!

Agent Knight here is the culmination of every 80s child's most fervent wish.

Alt Mode
The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is sex on wheels, as it always has been. That pure black paint job with the wickedly iconic light-strip up front is primo design. And Agent here is a beautiful rendition of it. The paint finish is just the right mix of gloss vs matt and amazingly feels like silk to the fingertip. Just a delight from every angle.

What makes this extra special is the first-time appearance in Collaborative of an actual sound and light chip! Yes, the light-strip works exactly as you want it to! And KITT speaks in that classic suave yet slightly nerdy 'British' tone.

And the bonnet headlights can be pulled up. Nice to have but not world shaking.

Transformation.
Like Code Red he's a tall boy (Voyager class) with a very simple Transformation. I suspect this is Hasbro realising that maybe casual fans are picking these toys up as well as the hard-core TF Nerds, so keeping the number of conversion steps down helps (as does sticking to simpler molds). It's yer basic car to robot a la Siege Sideswipe and even shades of previous entry, Gigawatt, up-scaled and fairly intuitive. No surprises or anything really clever, just solidly done with nice, stiff joints.

Robot Mode...is a bit flat and generic, sadly. The head-sculpt opts for an almost human shaped head and face with visor look we've seen countless times before with only a couple of silver "mutton chop" details either side giving it any character. Legs and waist are blue representing The Hoff's fabled denim from the show though legs are black from the knees down, so...thigh-high boots? Some red paint picks out detail on the shins but other than that it's a weirdly basic sculpt after years of ultra-detailed mainline releases. It's better than the truly terrible Top Gun release but I dunno, a release this special feels like it should have wowed in both modes.

Accessories Agent Knight comes with two weapons, a generic rifle and pistol, and one very cool addition - a piece that slots into his wrist representing Michael Knight's cool wrist watch from the show, with which he used to talk to K.I.T.T while on-foot.

I'm really pleased I bought it and solid fun with that car mode bringing all the nostalgia flooding back. But there's not much reason to put it in robot mode and that's a bit of a missed opportunity.

#Transformers #KnightRider #Collaborative #AgentKnight #Photoygraphy
