#Wisconsin: What to know about April's #VoterID ballot referendum

By: Emilee Fannon, Mar 27, 2025

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- "Voters will not only have to present a #PhotoID to vote on April 1, but they'll also be asked about adding that requirement to the state constitution.

"It's part of a constitutional amendment that will appear on ballots across the state.

"The ballot referendum asks voters, 'shall section 1m of article III of the constitution be created to require that voters present valid photographic identification verifying their identity in order to vote in any election, subject to exceptions which may be established by law?'

"A 'yes' vote would enshrine Wisconsin's voter requirement in the state constitution, a move that would make it harder for a court to strike down the law or for lawmakers to repeal.

"Voting 'no' would not add the state's voter ID law to the constitution.

"If the ballot measure is approved or rejected, little would change for Wisconsin voters because the existing photo ID law has been on the books for nearly a decade, said Bryna Godar at the State Democracy Research Initiative at the University of Wisconsin Law School.

"However, #Republican lawmakers who authored the amendment say it's designed to protect the law from legal challenges in wake of the state Supreme Court gaining a 4-3 #LiberalMajority in 2023."

The government's voter ID scheme risks the very principle of free and fair elections. One voter turned away is one too many.

Over 2 million people lack #photoID in the UK, and these undemocratic plans risk blocking them from the ballot box.

According to the Electoral Commission, 16,000 voters were turned away at the last general election. One voter being turned away from a single #polling station is one too many.

Nobody should be turned away because their driving licence is still in their maiden name, or a poll worker thinks they don't look like an old passport photo.

With no right to appeal, the UK now has a more restrictive ID regime than many US states.

'The Nastiz (the new UK Conservative Party) would never ape US Republican voter suppression tactics.'

Are you sure? Through Brexit, the Tories managed to disenfranchise the entire population of the Untied Kingdom. 66 million people (present and future voters) were denied their democratic right to have their say on how their lives are affected at an European level.

The Guardian · UK elections watchdog warns bill threatens its independenceBy Peter Walker

Good Morning, all

So our Second-Past-The-Post Prime Minister has finally called a General Election. But will Mr Tetchy (hear his #R4Today interview) now rush to get the Commons to change our electoral laws to a Second-Past-The-Post system?

You can't vote the Tories out unless you vote; not registered to vote?

Yet another reason to ditch the Nastiz: their gerrymandering US import requiring you now have #PhotoID to cast your vote:

Oops! Boris "Sasha" Johnson forgot to take an acceptable form of #PhotoID when he went to vote yesterday.

As Bozo introduced the idea of #VoterID (to the UK, it being a 'reform' much loved by US GOP), you'd think he'd have remembered to take it to with him to the polling station.

Or does our former PM and infamous Eton Oik feel so entitled he doesn't expect to have to observe the same rules he forced on the rest of us?
