Tom Sheppard<p>And USB drive enclosures are crap. I have 5 drives in my RAID. I bought matching <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Orico" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Orico</span></a> enclosures. I've had a 60% failure rate. I replaced two of the enclosures with a <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Maiwo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Maiwo</span></a> a year ago. If the disconnecting drive is an enclosure problem, then that's another brand to avoid.</p><p>For my own sanity I may have no other choice than to buy an expensive Synology NAS and 10 GbE card to get a DAS equivalent. I have a baby Synology DS-116 and it's a trooper.</p>
Third spruce tree on the left<p>Hey! <a href="https://mas.to/tags/packaging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>packaging</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/designers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>designers</span></a> this is how you do it. Its one of those "I need power tools to open" blister packs, but the back panel is `perforated` and there's a pre-cut hole for you to put your `finger` in. </p><p>1. insert finger<br>2. pull</p><p>Well done <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Orico" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Orico</span></a>, I already had one of your drive enclosures (way better than the other one I have) but that just cemented you as one of the "computer stuff vendors of choice" in my books.</p>
eabolden<p>Great description video of the OWC drive dock. I think this is the best option I have ever used. Very convenient. Thanks <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.cloud/@chuckjoiner" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>chuckjoiner</span></a></span> for this video. Alexey Skobkin<p>Оказывается, у ORICO есть свои железки для NAS.</p><p><a href="https://www.orico.cc/us/product/detail/4023.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">orico.cc/us/product/detail/402</span><span class="invisible">3.html</span></a></p><p>Только в отличие от тех же Synology/QNAP/Asustor/etc они изначально идут чисто как железки и рассчитывается, что пользователь сам накатит туда FreeNAS, OpenMediaVault или ещё что-нибудь.</p><p>В целом выглядит интересно. И если бы у них были варианты на 10-12 дисков и с процессорами помощнее - я бы даже задумался не пересобрать ли свой домашний сервер в таком виде.</p><p><a href="https://lor.sh/tags/hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hardware</span></a> <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/NAS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NAS</span></a> <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/network" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>network</span></a> <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/storage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>storage</span></a> <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/HDD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HDD</span></a> <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/log" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>log</span></a> <a href="https://lor.sh/tags/Orico" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Orico</span></a></p>
