cdc<p>I've just finished building and configuring my <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/OpenScan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenScan</span></a> Mini (RPi 3 B+ &amp; camera module v2.1). The first tests are impressive! Here's the result for a small seashell (39×29×24 mm³) scanned in two passes (100 photos each) reconstructed by <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/Meshroom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Meshroom</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/Maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Maker</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/3Dscan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3Dscan</span></a></p>

Michael Gebis<p>A couple of days ago, I finished building and setting up my "Openscan Mini kit". It's a raspberry-pi powered "robot" that automatically positions a small object and takes many photos of it, and then uploads those photos to a cloud service that then creates a full 3d-model. </p><p>Scanning an object can be a little finicky, but when it works, it's magic. I took a D&amp;D miniature and scanned it so that I now have a 3d model of that mini. I have some ideas but I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for next, so if you have any suggestions, let me know.</p><p>The project is the brainchild of Thomas Megel, and his website (which has links to buy kits of the various electronics) is at <a href="https://en.openscan.eu/openscan-mini" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">en.openscan.eu/openscan-mini</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>Note: If you want to jump in to photogrammetry (3d scanning from photos) without building/printing anything, there are other options out there. I'd try one of the phone apps such as polycam and scaniverse.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/openscan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openscan</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/raspberrypi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>raspberrypi</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://techhub.social/@3dprinting" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>3dprinting</span></a></span></p>
