This #NetNewsWire theme is unapologetically bones only at this stage. Regardless I want to get the template right – so never too early to be open for some feedback from #ScreenReader users on Apple devices.
Here’s V1: https://ollicle.com/projects/netnewswire/scratch/
I mean it! It is unthemed.
Anyone here regularly using #NetNewsWire with #VoiceOver on a Mac or iOS?
I’ve been building a theme for NetNewsWire that goes to some trouble to consistently provide a h1 heading in a main landmark. Would be encouraging to know if this provides any real practical benefit!
Please let me know if you would be willing to install a prototype and provide me some feedback #a11y

If you know some CSS you’re ready to customise your own #NetNewsWire theme. I made a theme to help me understand how themes work:
https://ollicle.com/projects/netnewswire/template-variables/
some of my favorite apps (at least for personal use):
#1Password - for passwords
#HeyEmail - for email
#OvercastFM - for podcasts
#NetNewsWire - for RSS
#Notabli - for a kids photo album
#helloweather - for weather
#NetNewsWire iOS protip/TIL: If you get prompted to allow pasting every time you try adding a feed URL that you copied from e.g. Safari to NNW, you can change a setting to always allow this and skip the prompt.
On iOS 18, go to Settings > Apps > NetNewsWire Past from Other Apps and change it to "Allow".
Do you want more pink in your RSS feed?
If, like me, you are in the Venn diagram of people that read #RSS feeds with the #NetNewsWire client and also want their News to be pink, I have the perfect theme for you!
You can get my #pink themes for NetNewsWire here: https://www.shannonkay.com/themes/
I made a custom theme for my RSS reader, NetNewsWire, and I'm very happy with it.
Now all of the news I read is pink, and no one can stop me.
@maciek33 #NetNewsWire albo #liferea (ale tylko #linux)
The problems with federated social media and RSS.
If I were to switch from #iOS to #Android the only big things I'd miss are:
- #NetNewsWire for #RSS
- #OvercastFM for #podcasting
Any equivalent suggestions?
I already pay for Overcast, so I don't mind paying for something with equivalent functionality: dynamic playback speed to shorten silences, voice boost for clear & consistent volume of speakers. These features make some otherwise unlistenable podcast audio problems easier to handle.
Facebook alternatives (an incomplete list): With a lot of people talking about leaving Facebook and other Meta properties, but also often expressing frustration with the most popular other options not having the same functionality, I started thinking about what could be done, where, and how. Here are my initial thoughts. https://michaelhans.com/eclecticism/?p=51583
Blog: NetNewsWire is not updating my RSS feed
NetNewsWire is having trouble refreshing my RSS feed, both on Mac desktop and iOS. I couldn’t debug the issue (yet). …

@eliocamp it's maybe melancholy, but also excitement while clicking on it and saving RSS feed to my #NetNewsWire app
I switched from #Feedly to #NetNewsWire today. I have used Feedly as my RSS reader since it started and have paid for Pro for years. But as they added AI and other stuff I didn’t need, I yearned for a simple reader that would sync across devices. Set up NNW in a couple of minutes with syncing via iCloud, loved it. Cancelled my Feedly renewal.
A big thank you to the person in my timeline who alerted me to the fact that NNW is now FOSS (of course I can’t find the post now to credit you).
Interesting! If I do use reader view in #NetNewsWire to read latest @Edent blog post, the text is all broken. If I use the "standard" mode then it's all fine (normally is the other way around)
