Ciarán Ferrie<p>TIL about the extraordinary story of the current Mayor of Derry, Lilian Seenoi-Barr.</p><p>She was co-opted onto Derry and Strabane District Council by the SDLP in 2019 and was re-elected in 2023 becoming the first black person to be elected to public office in Northern Ireland. Beattie struck me as a decent man, a man who wanted a pragmatic and constructive unionism, one in which people not of a traditionally unionist background could also feel at home. </p><p>I don't know if that's achievable. Orange Menace<p>Thanks to mechanical boat gremlins, I’ve ended up stuck in NI for the Twelfth. I just walked from the marina into town - it’s like they’re expecting a typhoon, or possibly zombies.
