I'd been thinking about this for a while, but <span class="h-card"><a href="https://hcommons.social/@MiraAssafK" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>MiraAssafK</span></a></span> 's latest post about self-censoring in response to a Tedious Reply which positions both venting about and agitating against injustice as uncivil, warning-worthy, and/or a specific cultural produt of the bird site kind of crystalised it.</p><p>There's the macro culture problem pertaining to the White People (mostly white, all people) doing the norm-enforcing.</p><p>It's looking to me like there's also a problem of speed and critical mass. And thence, *my* engagement patterns, honed on twitter & tumblr, are not helping.</p><p>1. Speed: things take a long time to federate between servers. I think there's even a bit of a lag between me posting on @hcommons and my own post showing up in my feed; the lag is much slower for <span class="h-card"><a href="https://zirk.us/@highly_reckons" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>highly_reckons</span></a></span> showing up here.</p><p>Thread coming up.</p>
