März 2025 Mitteleuropäischer Zeit (MEZ) im Nordosten der Mondvorderseite im Mare Crisium auf. Damit ist es der Firma Firefly Aerospace als erstem Privatunternehmen gelungen, eine robotische Sonde planmäßig und einwandfrei auf dem Mond zu landen. Die Blue Ghost Mission 1 hat im Rahmen der NASA-Initiative „Commercial Lunar Payload Services“ (CLPS) zehn wissenschaftliche und technische Instrumente auf die Mondoberfläche gebracht.

Februar 2025 Mitteleuropäischer Zeit, um 0.30 Uhr, öffnet sich das Startfenster für die Mission IM-2 mit der Landesonde Athena des US-amerikanischen New-Space-Unternehmen Intuitive Machines für seine zweite Mission zum Mond. Mit dabei ist das Lunar RADiometer (LRAD), ein wissenschaftliches Messinstrument zur berührungslosen Temperaturmessung. Es wurde am DLR und am Institut für Geologische Wissenschaften der Freien Universität Berlin (FUB) entwickelt.

The Firefly team nailed our most challenging burn to date! The team completed a 4-minute Lunar Orbit Insertion with Blue Ghost’s RCS thrusters and main engine to enter an elliptical orbit around the Moon. Over the next 16 days, we’ll conduct additional maneuvers to circularize our orbit and get closer to the lunar surface.
