I know @outseide.bsky.social was curious as to the Dahlia pictures I did when we had our expedition together in Seattle. So here's one! #flowerreport #photography #macrophotography
Les couleurs de l'halloween commencent à sortir...

"Confidence is a preference for the habitual voyeur of what is known as ...PARKLIFE!"
This amorous couple are clearly cabbage white butterflies, genus Pieris
From the size, the dark forewing, & relatively large dark apical patch on the left-hand butterfly (the male?), I'm going to venture that they're P. brassicae, the large cabbage white, Große Kohlweißling in
Thoughts?

The Great Golden Digger wasps (genus Sphex) are very active this time of year. It’s fascinating to watch them digging their tunnels and repeatedly checking and clearing them.
A couple of shots I took on today's dog walk. Both are unedited, the second (red & purple flower) was using the "Vivid" scene mode.

And lastly for now, a brief glimpse of a well-known butterfly, the red admiral (Vanessa atalanta; Admiral or Rote Admiral in ).
I've seen a few during the summer, along with peacock butterflies (Aglais io), but they've never stayed still long enough for me to photograph. This one didn't hang around long either, hence the quick paparazzo shot through the bushes

Second is a new shield bug for me, Eurydema oleracea, with its striking black & yellow markings. They can also come in black & white or black & red.
It has many names in English, including rape bug, crucifer shield bug, cabbage bug, & brassica bug. For once, the German name is simpler: Kohlwanze.

The sun is out & the sky is blue, & we're in for a few more days of warmth
Which means more insects in the garden, including a trio of new species for my list today
First, a female common winter damselfly (Sympecma fusca; Gemeine Winterlibelle in ).
The first shot is the crispest, but I've added two bonus ones from other camera angles for their different bokeh & backgrounds
