Calicosine<p>So does <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Kopia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kopia</span></a> do disk imaging, or no? I ask because I'm looking for a good alternative to <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/MacriumReflect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MacriumReflect</span></a> , saw some stuff here and in a web search that they ended support of the free version and I want to get off Mr. Bone's wild ride (late-stage capitalism and <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/proprietary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>proprietary</span></a> software).</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/backups" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backups</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/capitalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>capitalism</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/LateStageCapitalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LateStageCapitalism</span></a></p>

Ian Neill<p>Spent some time over the weekend, well basically the whole weekend, revamping some of my backups. Whole disc image backups are something I want to do more frequently.</p><p>Very pleased with the completely free version of <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/MacriumReflect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MacriumReflect</span></a> v8 for windows and <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/ReDoRescue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReDoRescue</span></a> v4 for Linux.</p><p>Macrium also allows the backups to be automated!</p>
Link<p><span>This experience got me thinking that instead of leaving 1 of my NVME drives waste away having </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Windows" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Windows</a><span> that does not get used, I might as well use it as a backup-only drive on </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Linux" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Linux</a><span>. Wipe the drive, mount it to my main system, then set </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Vorta" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Vorta</a><span> up to use it as a </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/backup" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#backup</a><span> repository. That way I'd have an always available </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/macOS" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#macOS</a><span> </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/TimeMachine" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#TimeMachine</a><span> like backup solution using that drive.<br><br>I'm curious how would I go about cloning the entirety of a drive to another on Linux (preferably graphically) though? In comparison, I normally use a free tool called </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/MacriumReflect" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MacriumReflect</a><span> that does a good job of cloning drives on Windows - I could even perform the cloning while using my desktop as usual from the source drive with no slowdown/issue. Never found a 1:1 alternative yet for Linux that could achieve this.<br><br>RE: </span><a href="https://calckey.social/notes/9hj0r6lvt1krvgiq" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://calckey.social/notes/9hj0r6lvt1krvgiq</a></p>
morgandawn<p>Need <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/computer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computer</span></a> advice right now. </p><p>The <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SSD</span></a> drive which runs my Windows desktop died &amp; I can no longer <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/boot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>boot</span></a> (no bios found &amp; it fails SMART). </p><p>2nd <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/HDD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HDD</span></a> hard drive passes <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SMART" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SMART</span></a>. Need to pay someone to install new SSD drive and Windows. OEM Windows license means $ for another license. </p><p>I have a <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/MacriumReflect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MacriumReflect</span></a> image of all the partitions, but it is an image, not a clone. I don't think I can reinstall Windows that way. Would also like to recover any SSD data not backed up to the image which is 1 month old</p><p>Above all, I want nothing to impact the 2nd HDD drive which is where the bulk of my data is stored. I have these files backed up through Thursday. Really really don't want to have to reinstall apps, browser extensions but seems inevitable</p><p>Question: What do I need to tell the computer tech specifically to do, and to avoid doing?</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SiliconValley" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SiliconValley</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SanJose" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SanJose</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/BayArea" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BayArea</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/ComputerHelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerHelp</span></a></p>
