Thank you #LouisePenny for clarifying for the rest of us. We fight #fascism on moral grounds, not political ones. I know most people don't want to get into messy issues like morals and ethics but desperate times call for desperate measures. We, as a nation, must clarify our understanding of morality if we are to repair the Canadian social fabric.

"I don't see this as political, really. I see this as moral. I see it as ethical, which has no boundaries. ...this is a moral wound, and it's up to us now to stand up and do something."

CBCAuthor Louise Penny says she didn't think twice before cancelling U.S. book-tour dates | CBC RadioThe novelist first announced the decision last week in a social media post. She says the choice isn’t a political one, but a moral one.

Book Review #2 for 2025 is How The Light Gets In by Louise Penny. As Inspector Gamache investigates the murder of the last of famous quintuplets, he finds himself as a target by members of his own Surete du Quebec who are trying to keep him from learning of a plan of destruction designed to achieve political purposes. As the final chapters unfold the reader finds themselves waiting for the inevitable clash and deadly outcome. ☕☕☕☕☕ review @books @bookstodon #LouisePenny #bookreview #mystery

Playing catch up today with my book review posts. I am simply listing them today with my coffee cup review because I am two months behind!

Book Review #56 for 2024 is Louise Penny's A Rule Against Murder
☕☕☕☕☕

Book Review #57 is Louise Penny's Bury Your Dead
☕☕☕☕☕

This must be read AFTER reading A Rule Against Murder. Penny does a masterful job of plot lines across these two works!

Book review #50 for 2024 is Louise Penny's Still Life. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his team are called into the Quebec countryside not too far from the US border to investigate the death of a beloved local resident. I liked this book, the plot, the setting, (I could smell the pines!), and the characters. Penny does a good job of bringing out the complex humanity in all of the characters. The ending is intense! ☕☕☕☕☕

@EllieK So Zaz's mother was not a Cornish Rex then? Or was she? I know so little about the breed, but I'd like to know more.

It must have been so hard to give away your last first edition of Vapour Trails. I'm sure the recipient will absolutely love and appreciate it!

I've been meaning to ask you, when you met Louise Penny, did she happen to mention how she came to know about your mother's poetry? She obviously deeply admired your mother's work.

@GertrudeZane
Ohhh. The thought of her beautiful mama... Zaz's mama was also a beautiful tabby. But no long flowing fur, just short, curly.
I gave away my last first edition of Vapour Trails today (apart from my own dedicated signed copy). Now we wait for the shipment of the new edition. She was an avid #LouisePenny fan, who came to buy a box from Steven. She has bought other pieces from him in the past. I know she'll love it.

Book 11: “A Trick of the Light” by #LouisePenny.

This mystery series is starting to feel predictable, which can be a comfort and largely why I read one every winter. But I’m tired of the bitchy exchanges with Ruth (they’re not even funny or endearing), the constant need to refer to Myrna by her size and Blackness … The addiction angle in this one was shallow, but at least there’s developments with Jean-Guy, Clara, and Peter.
