I literally just got into #3Dprinting thanks to my wife buying me a #BambuLab A1 Mini late last year for my birthday, and BL is already trying to pull this shit off - forcing cloud dependency and user lock-in, instead of letting people use the #3Dprinter they had bought however they want to.

The last time I got
bamboozled like this was with #Anker's #Eufy security cameras - when I paid the extra sum of money for their cameras (over way cheaper competitors) because they promised everything was local, then just a week or so later it was exposed that all of their camera feeds/thumbnails were accessible online. They even tried denying it until the news got too big for them to counter, bloody hell.

Was it like this for the very few people who knew at the time that System Enhancement Associates was 2 blokes in their homes, when Phil Katz was mobilizing people against them for being a big bad evil corporate giant wanting to suppress him, back in the 1980s?

I know what it was like to be one of the mobilized people, and only learn the truth decades later.

I wonder what will happen when the people wrongly thinking that they are having a right to repair fight (against a manufacturer who *sent xyr product off for third-party repair*, even though xe said that it wasn't repairable) realize that they are actually in a fight where powerful U.S. YouTubers, with huge funds and millions of on-line followers to mobilize, are denying a 1 man business in Glamorganshire the U.K. legal rights that xe has over xyr own designs.

Following up on the #MendItMark hoo-hah:

Louis Rossman promised last week that xyr "next video" would be a re-upload of MendItMark's video. It wasn't. M. Rossman uploaded several videos after that, and only now, the next week, has got around to the re-upload.

At least one of the other re-uploaders in the initial flurry to re-upload has since deleted xyr re-upload.

Apparently, no YouTuber has had a "What‽ There's a design right in the U.K.‽" moment, yet.

It always pains me that my favourite Android keyboard was . I'd had it since before Microsoft acquired it.

I have just tried out , it's open source. It's part of Futo that does a bunch of supposedly consumer focused apps like and . I believe is backing futo in some way?

Anyway the keyboard is really pretty good for what they are calling an alpha, has an optional on device voice typing model too, that I am yet to check out.

@jasonkoebler Apple's "Genius" support at their stores is equally silly, as has repeatedly observed in his apple repair videos. The skill required to do this type of work requires far higher income than these corporatiosn would pay, thus the service they offer cannot be real except for lowest set of problems, or just saying, oh, you need a full board replacement (when a transistor has failed). was never real to me, it was not possible to do what they claimed to do.

Check out Louis Rossman's YouTube videos on shonky New York landlords and estate agents. I don't feel even slightly bad for them for a commercial property crash.

One good thing to come from the covid pandemic - working from home was proven to work and all the ridiculous waste of time, money, fuel & energy associated with commuting to an office can just go down the toilet. Good riddance.

This allows you to follow #creators directly from multiple platforms through "sources" such as #youtube #soundcloud #peertube etc and also support them through their preferred funding type. Removing the middleman and giving them back control on their "brand/identity" without being locked in.

Grayjay is going to have a huge trust and honor system issue in being given to the masses. When you start gatekeeping (even if it's for a valid anti-malware stance) you are INVITING malicious actors to do a Spartacus situation to overwhelm your resources. State actors and potentially competition acting on malice by proxy is what I am most concerned about.

Purposely overwhelming by engaging in legal battles to the point the overall perception is tainted through negative press is the dangerous part of doing any good these days.
