スパックマン クリス<p>Haven't mentioned in a while, but I am still using and very happy with my <span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@system76" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>system76</span></a></span> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/MechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboard</span></a> </p><p>My wife is now using my original <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchKeyboard</span></a> and having no problems.</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Realized the other day that I am totally comfortable now with my <a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> keyboard. Feels good, works well, no mechanical issues.</p><p>I haven't had any more trouble on boot (but I also don't plug an additional keyboard in at boot any more either). Although I ended up not needing it, System76 support was excellent.</p><p>Wants:</p><p>* ability to set keys and shift+keys individually, not just as a set</p><p>* System76 to sell sets of additional keycaps (or individual ones). </p><p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@system76" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>system76</span></a></span></p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Rebooted with both the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> gaming and the <span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@system76" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>system76</span></a></span> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> plugged in. Once again, the LaunchHeavy acted weird. Key presses not registering and keys repeating when they shouldn't. (Similar to last time.)</p><p>The Heavy worked great for the last many weeks, no issues at all. Suddenly, issues again. Maybe a usb / keyboard driver conflict between them? </p><p>No idea how to troubleshoot something like this' though.</p><p>(Also, key lighting suddenly not working on the Kinesis.)</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Not sure what happened with my <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a>, but it is still working fine (after acting quirkily - new word! - after a power outage).</p><p>Went back to <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> gaming keyboard for a few days, and missed the Heavy more than I thought I would. Glad Heavy is working properly again, but not sure why / how it got quirky.</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Probably my all time favorite keyboards. The <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> gaming is probably my current number 1, but the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> is a close number 2. (Negative: notice the lights reflected on the monitor.)</p><p>The <a href="https://twit.social/tags/TouchStream" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TouchStream</span></a> is the best _mouse_ I have ever had. As a keyboard, it takes a lot of getting used to. Been using it off and on for around 20 years, though. It is excellent for environments (like HS state testing) that must be silent.</p><p>And, yes, I really use 3 mice.</p><p><a href="https://twit.social/tags/MechanicalKeyboards" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboards</span></a></p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Update on <a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/MechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboard</span></a> because I am procrastinating right now:</p><p>Still using it as my day-to-day main keyboard. I've gotten used to not having the extra keys on the left (that my <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> has) and thus having to use Super+F[1-8] to change desktops.</p><p>Layout reverts to layer 1, QWERTY at reboot, which is annoying, but I got used to it.</p><p>I'm liking having the numpad, but lack of indicator has got me a few times after rebooting.</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Day 9 (iirc) of using <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a>. So far:</p><p>* Feels a little cramped after the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> Gaming <a href="https://twit.social/tags/MechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboard</span></a> </p><p>* 1st time I've wanted a wrist pad. Built into the Kinesis, now miss it</p><p>* The key LEDs shine out the back onto the monitor. Annoying at night, have to turn off (the LEDS).</p><p>* Launch Heavy is great keyboard, though. No problems with typing, love the feel of the keys.</p><p>* Like key repeat delay &amp; speed better.</p><p>* In my house, the quiet keys are important, and these are great.</p>
スパックマン クリス<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@dm319" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>dm319</span></a></span> </p><p>The <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> has 4 layers. The first is qwerty. I set up the third as dvorak - my main layout. Second is set up to control the LEDs.</p><p>Love the idea to have the less frequently needed keys on an easily accessible layer.</p><p>Thanks! I think I'm going to try that.</p>
スパックマン クリス<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://twit.social/@Brandon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Brandon</span></a></span> </p><p><a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> makes great (if expensive) <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> -first computers. They introduced a fully-open, made-in-USA, small keyboard called the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Launch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Launch</span></a> a couple of years ago.</p><p>They just recently (like 2 or 3 weeks ago?) released the "larger" version, called the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a>. Again, expensive, but imho a person could pass it on to their grandchildren. Also beat off intruders with it.</p><p>Still getting used to it, but can see it as my day-to-day <a href="https://twit.social/tags/MechanicalKeyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboard</span></a>.</p><p>See <a href="https://system76.com/accessories/launch" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">system76.com/accessories/launc</span><span class="invisible">h</span></a></p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Any suggestions for what to set as the 4th key in on left side, bottom row of my <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> ? I have Ctrl Super Alt and Menu. Menu is next to left space bar.</p><p>BUT, I never use the menu key. I'm tempted to set up <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Fluxbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fluxbox</span></a> to open a terminal, but I'd probably press it on accident enough for that to be annoying.</p><p>Maybe another left shift key - nothing to undo if pressed on accident and maybe useful.</p><p>Wish we could config to Ctrl+F1 to go to desktop 1. Not doable.</p><p><a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/MechanicalKeyboards" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MechanicalKeyboards</span></a></p>
スパックマン クリス<p>If "I can still type my <a href="https://twit.social/tags/BitWarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BitWarden</span></a> password easily by touch" is a good metric, then I'm doing fine with the new <a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> keyboard. It feels more cramped than the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a>, but I knew that would be the case, because the Kinesis is a split keyboard.</p><p>I am loving that the Launch Heavy is so quiet. The Kinesis is great, but too loud when others are trying to do anything nearby.</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>Finally (for now), the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> comes with extra keycaps. <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> gaming does not. BUT, <a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> should consider including more or different ones. For example, there is only one 1.5 size Ctrl keycap. I want another for the right side. Also, no small size CapsLock. I can't be the only one who swaps ESC and CapsLock, can I?</p><p>Also, only one "Super" key. I set up one on the right side also, as every keyboard should have. But, no keycap.</p><p>That said, can't do this at all on the Kinesis.</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>The <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> can do 4 layouts. I think the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> can only do 3. But, I basically only use <a href="https://twit.social/tags/dvorak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dvorak</span></a> and <a href="https://twit.social/tags/qwerty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>qwerty</span></a>, so no problem there.</p><p>Don't like: Launch cannot configure Shift+key, nor any other multi-key combos. Kinesis can. Kinesis also uses text files; Launch uses the GUI configuration software. To set up <a href="https://twit.social/tags/dvorak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dvorak</span></a> layout, I had to point and click like 60+ times.</p><p>(And, why doesn't it come with a pre-configured dvorak choice?)</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>So far:</p><p>Launch is actually smaller than the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> gaming keyboard. BUT, Kinesis wins for ergonomics.</p><p>Setting up the Launch Heavy was not difficult. I got the Kailh Silent Brown; they are quiet and feel great.</p><p>Bonus points to Launch for having 4 extra usb ports built in. That is going to be handy.</p><p><a href="https://twit.social/tags/FullDisclosure" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FullDisclosure</span></a> - I have a <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Pop_OS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Pop_OS</span></a> computer that I used to set up the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> keyboard. I'm using it on my <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Gentoo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Gentoo</span></a> machine, though. Anyone know if there is an ebuild for the config software?</p>
スパックマン クリス<p>My <a href="https://twit.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/LaunchHeavy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaunchHeavy</span></a> <a href="https://twit.social/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>keyboard</span></a> arrived!</p><p>Going to play with it now. Will definitely post a comparison with my current favorite, the <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Kinesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kinesis</span></a> Gaming keyboard.</p>
