I'm going to write a blog post about #TheDevils by #KenRussell but I know no one's going to read it because no one's even seen that masterpiece of a #movie.
But it is a masterpiece and I want to write about it. So :-P
I just watched Ken Russell's The Devils.
It is a masterpiece of corruption and power grab, and it is so relevant today.
It's a story of an imperfect man being forsaken so oppressors can triumph. It's a story of accusations of devil worship, where denial of the accusations is as much a sign of guilt than a confession.
It's one of the greatest films ever made, an uncomfortable tale of hysteria and torture.
It's perhaps not for the faint hearted.

I can see why people didn’t like Beyond the Black Rainbow but it spoke to me of psychonaut John Lilly and the world my head inhabited in the late 80s. That of course links it with Altered States and the works of Ken Russell, although Cosmatos and Russell are very different… John Lilly characteristically liked Altered States despite or perhaps because of its absurdity. Na liście filmów, które chciałbym w odświeżyć w niedalekiej przyszłości bardzo wysoko znajduje się "Gotyk" ("Gothic", 1986) Kena Russela. Zresztą w ogóle kusi mnie, by przejechać całego Russela, niczego nie pomijając i chronologicznie. Może kiedyś.
A wiecie, co mnie jeszcze kusi? Żeby faktycznie ruszyć z cyklem z historią sztuki w filmie – nie na taką skalę, jak z historią sztuki w komiksie, ale jednak.
No to skoro kusi... I skoro wspomniałem o "Gotyku"...

Ken Russell's Lair of the White Worm is bat shit crazy mid 80's horror with Dexy flavored folk rock and a young heroic Hugh Grant. You could do a lot worse with schlock horror this season.
