Micheal :devterm:
Latest Plex update for IOS broke my Tailscale setup. For the past couple of years I've turned "Remote Streaming" off since I can just funnel everything through my Tailnet, which is nicer from a privacy and security perspective.

With the recent changes of requiring a PlexPlass starting 4/29 (I've had a Lifetime PlexPass since 2013) to stream remotely, guess they're trying to close loopholes.

Thankfully setting up an Exit Node on the same server as Plex bypasses it. Good to have a workaround, but annoying to remember to enable it since it's not something I always want to use.

I've had Jellyfin running in parallel for a couple years too for when this day would come, but I've spent so much time on Plex metadata and overall the software is still nicer to use than Jellyfin, it's hard to make the switch.

#plex #jellyfin

Mika
Done this with the #AMD 5600G's iGPU, now testing #Jellyfin hardware transcoding with my #Intel #ArcA380 GPU - one question though, is it normal for CPU usage to be rather high at least in the early parts of streaming (while transcoding), even with hardware transcoding?

I'm just trying to figure out if it is actually hardware transcoding - I'm assuming it is, bcos on the admin dashboard I'm seeing that it's transcoding as AV1 and I'm sure my Ryzen 7 1700 would not be able to do/handle that, esp considering that I'm testing with 4 streams playing concurrently? but the CPU usage is rather high the first minute or two or more from when the stream starts, it does lower down afterwards - the video playback is perfectly fine, no stuttering or anything like that.

My method of passthrough is the same as I did with the 5600G, that is a simple passthrough to the #LXC container, then to the #Docker container running Jellyfin. I don't think I noticed this high CPU usage when testing the 5600G, and the only minor configuration difference between the two was I'd used #VAAPI with the 5600G and disabled #AV1 encoding (since idt it supports it), while on the Arc A380 GPU I'm using Intel's #QSV and have enabled AV1 encoding.

Am I correct to assume that hardware transcoding is indeed working? Cos again, I'm quite certain my Ryzen 7 1700 would definitely NOT be able to handle this lol esp since I only give the LXC container 2 cores.

Nikhil 🐧
This is what an afternoon in a neurodivergent life can look like. If today wasn't a public holiday, I'd probably get stressed about it at some point, but today I can fully enjoy being neurodivergent:

Was watching a TV show on my laptop. Episode ended with a cliffhanger and just one more episode left. "OK I have to see the finale NOW, but I'll watch it on the TV instead of the laptop".
So I put on the TV and the asshole-fireTV stick wants to update itself. So I decide I want to figure out how to beat the #fireTV stick. I want to try if I can somehow block it's internet connection and still use the #jellyfin app.
So I get my laptop again to check my #pihole settings to see the requests made by the fireTV stick. However, I accidentally click the wrong bookmark so it takes me to the #Fritzbox settings instead. I remember now that I wanted to set up guest WiFi sometime soon. So I proceed and set that up and download the QR code to my phone. The next thing I know is that I'm remembering the melody of a song and decide that I want to try it on guitar because I haven't tried it before. So I put away the laptop and get the guitar. I try a few times, then look up guitar-tabs. I notice that it isn't hard at all, so I feel motivated to play along. So I tune my guitar correctly, switch on the amp and give it a few tries. I end up spending more than an hour playing along to the song 🥰 Then I create a quick phone recording of me playing parts of the song and send it to a friend on Signal "lol guess the song, its from 2011"
Since the phone is now in my hand, might as well check Tusky...🤣

I feel really happy, accomplished and calm (guitar and also sports have this effect when being neurodivergent) so I can now trace the breadcrumbs and do the things that I had left undone, hours ago 😂 the fireTV stick and the final episode of that TV show 😂

maybe I should just watch the show and forget about the fireTV stick. I might 🪓 that piece of trash sooner or later and replace it with a #raspberrypi 😆

#neurodivergent #electricguitar
