Strong, graceful, defiant, loyal, brave. Anna Sawai won the Best Actress Emmy 2024 and Golden Globe 2025, and so well deserved. The scenes at Osaka Castle are so powerful and memorable, Mariko facing questioning by the council, and when she and her group defiantly try to leave. Shōgun also won the Best Drama Emmy 2024 &amp; Golden Globe 2025.</p>

Critically it has an uncomplicated happy ending, after a gut-punchingly emotional couple of eps toward the end.</p>
commonst<p>I can't quite remember why I clicked on this one. I probably wanted something different to watch during software release time. Finished it this morning, and while it wasn't a strong romance it was good. The idea that love is antithetical to success at studying and the turn around on that feels like a social commentary I don't have the knowledge to fully appreciate. But the gist of it got through, and it was a very cute first love story. Unusual format. It was quite enjoyable.</p><p><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a></p>

Happily, it's MUCH less common in <a href="https://mas.to/tags/CDrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CDrama</span></a>, <a href="https://mas.to/tags/JDrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JDrama</span></a> and <a href="https://mas.to/tags/TWDrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TWDrama</span></a></p><p>I dumped Cha-Cha-Cha because of the omniscient, omnipotent ML. Sadly THAT trope is also very common in <a href="https://mas.to/tags/CDrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CDrama</span></a>, especially.</p>

The attached image shows all the Dramas that I've tagged as having comedy either primary or secondary genre. Not many out of almost 530, and <a href="https://mas.to/tags/JDrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JDrama</span></a> has a clear edge over <a href="https://mas.to/tags/KDrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KDrama</span></a></p>

commonst<p>My partner: what did you do this afternoon.</p><p>Me: tried fixing the media machine, and finished a <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a> romance.</p><p>Him: did you yell at the TV?</p><p>Me: yes.</p><p>Him: ah, so it was a good romance then. That's nice.</p>
commonst<p>Yes, of course. </p><p>Priorities.</p><p>That was a really well done drama. It felt in parts like an introduction to Korean culture, which maybe it was. <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/kdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kdrama</span></a> and <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a> , at least what I have seen of them, feel very different to each other. This felt like a nice mix of both. This had the Japanese focus on food and also the yelling at the leads to get their acts together that is more Korean. </p><p>I liked. Would watch again.</p><p>After I fix the media machine.</p>
commonst<p>I am watching <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/EyeLoveYou" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EyeLoveYou</span></a> on my own, and also <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/UnlockMyBoss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UnlockMyBoss</span></a> with my partner. And it just connected with me that the male lead in both these is played by <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/ChaeJongHyeop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChaeJongHyeop</span></a> . I have also seen him in <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Sisyphus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sisyphus</span></a> according to IMDB. I am enjoying his acting, I will have to keep an eye out for him in the future. <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/kdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kdrama</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a></p>
commonst<p>Tae-O is ADORABLE. </p><p>My brain wants to call him Tae-Ho a la <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Vincenzo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Vincenzo</span></a>. Because this is Japanese I am not sure if Tae-Ho or Tae-Oh is more accurate. Either way he is still just the sweetest character I have seen in a while. </p><p><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/kdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kdrama</span></a></p>
commonst<p>in my quest to find silly shows to get me through the final stages of the release cycle. And boy does this show deliver.</p><p>A <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a> this time, the female lead has the ability to read minds. The male lead is from Korea and thinks in Korean, which the female lead doesn't know how to speak. He starts out delivering food to her, but by the end of the episode he is working at her company... which frowns on fraternisation. Hilarity ensues.</p><p>I love how <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a> has such a food centred focus. Or at least the ones I have watched do. Because our hero is Korean, the food in episode 1 is mostly Korean. I know, shocker. But a fun little twist. <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/kdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kdrama</span></a> food tends to be whatever the sponsor is shilling, which can be quite creatively done but not the same level.</p><p>Between this and <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/ThePotatoLab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ThePotatoLab</span></a> I will be well entertained.</p>
Mariam al-Masri<p>I've become obsessed with the <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/jdrama" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jdrama</span></a> Spec~Birth. It follows my favorite tropes in East Asian media: the genius psycho who can solve cases and the sane righteous cop. What was interesting was how the FL is the insane psycho and solves most of the cases by herself with the ML acting as the muscle and moral compass as they solve crimes around people w/special abilities.</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/japan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>japan</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/media" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>media</span></a></p>
