Bob Jonkman<p>The Region of Waterloo is asking for feedback for designing their new website, to be launched in 2026. But when I click their link, all I get is an error message about requiring <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Javascript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Javascript</span></a>. So, that's my only feedback: Hire a competent front-end developer who knows how to make a website that's not <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Javascrippled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Javascrippled</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://aroundtheregion.ca/you-can-help-us-build-the-region-of-waterloos-new-website/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">aroundtheregion.ca/you-can-hel</span><span class="invisible">p-us-build-the-region-of-waterloos-new-website/</span></a></p>

Bob Jonkman<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@privacybrowser" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>privacybrowser</span></a></span></p><p>And the sadness is, Google Maps used to work fine without <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Javascript" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Javascript</span></a>. </p><p>I think most web developers (especially Google) have the smarts to build pages that build gracefully depending on browser capability: Showing content first, then style, and finally adding behaviour with Javascript. Content and style is the easy part, make sure it's there first.</p><p>So why don't they? Do the client specs require <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Javascrippled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Javascrippled</span></a> content so they'll get surveillance? </p><p>(Added some <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AltText" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AltText</span></a>, BTW)</p>

Nobody [LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1)]#<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/indiegogo" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">IndieGoGo</a></span>: We’ve updated our Terms of Use, which are effective today. Please take some time to review them. The continued use of our site and services will indicate your agreement to be bound by the new Terms of Use. <br><br> The second "Terms of Use" is also a tracking link. I'm not planning to back any future crowdfunding on your site anyway, but it would be nice to see the ToU / ToS that you're applying. <br><br> By the way, your site is #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">JavaScrippled.</a></span> You're definitely not planning something underhanded and malevolent. It just seems that way when comparing your actions and their timing with the actions one would expect from someone that is planning something underhanded and malevolent.
Nobody [LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1)]Maybe if "Big Yoshi" spent less time dining out, some of the bigness would go away. <a href="https://www.yoshinoyaamerica.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.yoshinoyaamerica.com/</a><br><br> Incidentally, "browse no support js" is not a valid reason not to show where their locations are. If they're wanting people to come to their locations and spend money, letting #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/javascript" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">JavaScript</a></span> become an obstacle is stupid. #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">JavaScrippled.</a></span>
Nobody [LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1)]@year2038@infosec.exchange The site needs a JS-free fallback for displaying content. If someone visits and can't see any #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/facebook" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Facebook</a></span> alternatives (or they see "upgrade your browser, then visit us afterward"), they may be #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/lost" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">lost</a></span> for good. #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">JavaScrippled</a></span>
Bob JonkmanToo bad the #<span class=""><a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Javascrippled</a></span> Mastodon interface doesn't actually attach images to Toots, making them invisible to the rest of the !<a href="https://gnusocial.no/group/1189/id" class="h-card u-url p-nickname" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Fediverse</a>. But this time it's worth browsing to the original message, downloading the image, and re-posting it. <br> ♻ @<a href="https://mastodon.social/users/moritzheiber" class="h-card u-url p-nickname mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">MoritzHeiber</a>: me: This user interface is easy to use, intuitive and will survive the test of time.<br><br> my users: <a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/file/49944c4a320fbba8047415d86f000d6d0257c67ac31e0a5c9fbe31b078b12ffe.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" class="" target="_blank">https://gs.jonkman.ca/attachment/119862</a>
Bob JonkmanThis implies that it is possible to code the original #<span class=""><a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/tag/doom" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Doom</a></span> in a single webpage (probably as a #<span class=""><a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Javascrippled</a></span> page of the usual inefficient and unaccessible kind)
Bob Jonkman...because Mastodon images are #<span class=""><a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Javascrippled</a></span>, they don't show up in my timeline. This one is worth downloading, re-uploading and linking: <a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/file/c32aa3f4c486489c664ddc4fe73484801aa5273176961ce1fc22c91a11216b53.png" rel="nofollow noopener" class="" target="_blank">https://gs.jonkman.ca/attachment/116112</a>
Bob JonkmanBecause images don't federate from #<span class=""><a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Javascrippled</a></span> social media servers: ♻ @<a href="https://toot.cat/users/garbados" class="h-card u-url p-nickname mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">garbados</a> The Internet depends on people like this <a href="https://gs.jonkman.ca/file/11e3fdd16030b1a9888259ff6581e60945190be4898cd839829b2f11919c99a8.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" class="" target="_blank">https://gs.jonkman.ca/attachment/111408</a>
Nobody [LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1)]@<a href="https://shitposter.club/user/1" class="h-card mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">moonman</a> That's true, but making sites that are still usable without #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/javascript" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">JavaScript</a></span> means sites that are not going through a rush re-architecting after the not yet known event finally pierces JS's aorta. That was what I think @<a href="https://mastodon.social/users/cypnk" class="h-card mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">cypnk</a> was grumbling about: #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">JavaScrippled</a></span> sites.
Nobody [LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1)]I don't like that #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/pleroma" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Pleroma</a></span> is completely #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/javascrippled" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">JavaScrippled.</a></span> But the leader in going the wrong way was #<span class=""><a href="https://nu.federati.net/tag/qvitter" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Qvitter.</a></span>
