It is GPL licensed and will hopefully stay that way. But in my experience, an acquisition of a widely used open-source tool usually leads to a non-foss license change down the line, let's hope that doesn't happen here... there are no indicators of that happening other than my own cynicism. But my cynicism has been well-fed over the last years by corporations acquiring and enshittifying previously open-source projects. It does have a dreadful reputation in reddit threads, but for me it's been great. Nonetheless, i always begin evaluating options each time my VPN subs are about to expire, seeking a nirvana of good privacy, security, no-logs, ram-based, no 5-eyes, streaming geo-dodging, Arch GUI possibility. Atm, my quest remains unsated. Overwhelmingly bad [not universal, one or two fans] reviews & complaints, ranging from Surfshark summarily closing accounts & blocking users without explanation or refund [ie, same as claimed often for NordVPN], to them ignoring customer cancellation requests & “illegally” auto-renewing credit card charges, to simply shitty VPN performance [disconnections, detected & blocked by many sites]. Despite all these being possibly just hearsay, or dishonest spamming, they overwhelmed me enough such that I’ve now abandoned plans to continue considering this as a candidate. Hence, this VPN is now eliminated. </p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/Mullvad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mullvad</span></a> <br>Based on reddit, some users or ex-users allege that Mullvad is not good for streaming, as they focus only on user privacy & security, not streaming, so where it works, that latter is a bonus-only, & is not guaranteed. If so, that’s the same excuse IVPN used. My streaming results: <br> • PASS: SBS OnDemand, BBC iPlayer, ABC iView [ABC24].<br> • FAIL: ABC iView [ABC1], ITV, CBC.<br>Pity, because again, its GUI is very nice, very configurable, many options & settings, & both OpenVPN & WireGuard baked-in, but unlike IVPN, heaps of AUS & global servers.
