schneckenhausDie Höhle Stóragjá war lange ein beliebter Badeplatz, doch zwischen 1975 und 1984 stieg die Wassertemperatur durch die vulkanische Aktivität der Krafla-Eruptionen zeitweise sehr stark an. In dieser Phase gelangte verstärkt heißes Grundwasser in die Höhle. Obwohl das Wasser inzwischen wieder abgekühlt ist, bleibt das Baden aus Sicherheitsgründen verboten. Die Höhle selbst wirkt mit ihrem türkisfarbenen Wasser und dem Lichtspiel faszinierend. Zuerst bade ich in der historischen Quelle Galtahryggjarlaug, die ebenfalls im 13. Jhd von Bischof Guðmundur dem Guten gesegnet wurde. Am Abend, während draußen heftiger Regen auf das Tal niedergeht, genieße ich das einzigartige, geothermisch beheizte Schwimmbad mitten im Gewächshaus und die verschiedene Hot Pots.
