OK, #guitar Mastodon people, here's a #GuitarEffects question: Where do you put the Wah pedal? Before the chain, after the chain, or somewhere in the middle?

Wrap up: I feel comfortable to move forward and tackle anything I need with now, but it took 15-20hrs of a learning curve. But it's exciting to know that I'll be able to so some mind-bending stuff on the fly live, without a bunch of external aux switches etc, as well as customize the rig for any genre or celebrity that we may end up working with!
It also means I can add the preamp of my IRX as an insert effect, as well as my analog compressor pedal, and create presets that incorporate them or don't.
It also means that I can create presets that bypass the Friedman completely and get the "guitar right into the board" sound…
In case you're looking for a new guitar effect, why not buy one from a European builder or manufacturer?

Checked the serial number, 109115, and that's from September 1981. That can't be true, this is definitely a Taiwanese version, even the serial sticker says so. And it can run on a battery. But the PCB version is from 1984. Oh I love these kinds of little mysteries hidden in such a small object.
Opened it up and behold... A TA7136AP! But wait... The PCB says ET-28F, what revision is that? And what is the serial number actually?
This battered Boss DS-1 caught my attention. Asked the seller where it was made. Taiwan, so not the more sought after Japanese version. But the thing is, early Taiwanese versions were basically the same as their Japanese counterparts, up until 1994. Then Boss started using a dual opamp instead of the TA7136 IC which meant the design had to be changed.
So could this be an early Taiwanese version with the much desired Toshiba opamp?
The whole bottom plate rubber sticker thingy of the SD-1 is completely gone so you can't see where it was made.
More information on the different versions of this pedal can be found on the excellent stinkfoot.se site.
Stumbled upon an old analog delay and the seller also offered this Boss SD-1. Tried one years ago and I liked it back then. Price was right so asked the seller to add it to my purchase. When it came in I was curious of course, what version would it be?
Well, it looks like the made in Taiwan version but it does have the JRC4558DD opamp. So it's a good one. Sounds great and comes with the bleeding issue which is another giveaway that this is an older unit.
Does it sound better? The mod gives you 3 modes instead of one so that's already a plus. But notes died too quickly and when gently picking it sounded more like a spluttering fuzz.
But I recalled reading somewhere that you can run this thing on 12v. Now that did the trick! The pedal sounds way better on 12v and together with the mod this effect now offers some usable sounds.
Another tip, pull out the stock tube and replace it with something better.
