Kiki🇺🇸: The grey heron (Ardea cinerea), also known as the common heron, is a bird species in the order Pelecaniformes. It is widespread and common in Eurasia and Africa. The grey heron reaches a body length of 90 to 98 centimetres and usually weighs between 1 and 2 kilograms. Well-fed birds can weigh more than 2 kilograms, while emaciated specimens weigh only up to 810 grams. The wingspan is between 175 and 195 centimetres. There is no noticeable sexual dimorphism. On average, however, males are somewhat larger. Grey herons are habitat generalists who are equally at home in freshwater inland, at river mouths and in coastal regions. They have few demands on their habitat. They need to be close to bodies of water with shallow water zones, relatively large prey and four to five months in which the water does not freeze over.
