Perfect timing - yesterday I picked up the 2025 Year the Snake from Julio's Liquors, and today DHL dropped off a package from Tain - the 2022 Year of the Tiger. That brings me up to date on the current run of four zodiac releases. On to the 2026 Year of the Horse!

This Glenmorangie is a 23 year old (all of the zodiac releases are 23 years old) marriage of ex-bourbon and Pedro Ximenez Sherry aging.

Looking forward to visiting the Glenmorangie House and distillery next month.

Another Whiskey Wednesday at Julio's Liquors tonight, which was fun as always. And a couple of special orders had arrived, unbeknownst to me. So that was a nice surprise, except for my wallet. 😉

This one I've been waiting months for, as the distributor couldn't get their act together just to move it from a warehouse in NJ to Julio's in MA. But it finally arrived!

Glenmorangie Year of the Snake, a 23 year old release finished in Amontillado Sherry casks. This is the fourth release in the ongoing zodiac series (Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake), expected to run for 12 years - for the full zodiac.

These releases aren't something you normally find on a shelf. Fortunately, our regional LVMH luxury rep is a great guy and he was able to hook me up.

I'm excited to try this one. 😁

Just cracked these. It has been a LONG weekend, back in NY helping my dad. Traffic both going there and coming back was terrible, multiple accidents on I90 turning a 2.5 hour drive into 3.5+ hours.

Just got home and I'm going to enjoy these.

The other part of the shipments I picked up from my friend today was two bottles of Glenmorangie.

First is Glenmorangie 1990 Oloroso Sherry Cask Matured. Cask 5855, filled June 15, 1990, bottled September 6, 2005. Bottle 334 of 635.

And the other is the Rare Single Cask, Cask 12836 Distillery Exclusive Release. Filled June 22, 2006 and bottled April 18, 2019, so 12 years old. One of 257 bottles, this was wholly matured in a Bandol red wine cask.

We're working through Squid Game Season 3 tonight. A few episodes in, I decided to crack another two.

These are visually closer in appearance, but very different on the palate. Rare Cask 2 is Pommard and Cask 1784 is Pedro Ximenez.

The first is dark and fruity - berries, cherries, and chocolate. There is some peppery spice and sweetness, with vanilla underneath.

The second is both sweeter and drier. The sweetness is brown sugar and dried fruits, and there is a cinnamon spiciness. There's also an undertone of earthiness on the finish.

I'm liking these. All four tonight share Glenmorangie character and yet are distinctly different. Very nice.

Trying these Glenmorangie tonight. First impression is that they are visibly different.

Wow, what a difference. The first is rich, spicy, and woody in a good way. The second is light, sweet, and slightly smoky. There's a creamy vanilla note on the finish.

I'm not sure what kind of peat the second used, but I'm guessing highland pear as I'm not getting the iodine notes common to Islay peat.

Both are fantastic.

Way back on June 4th, Julio's Liquors hosted Heaven Hill Distillery for Whisk(e)y Wednesday at Julio's Liquors. Part of the tasting lineup were the three "Grain to Glass" bottlings - Bourbon, Wheated Bourbon, and Rye. I ended up picking up the set as an interesting tasting flight to share.

I missed the Cape Horn Tequila tasting, as I was out of town for work, but I love the blanco and repasado, so I was always going to pick up the anejo once it was announced. I stopped in and grabbed one when I got home.

And while I was there, I noticed the Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 year was finally on the shelf. The local distributor had a lot of the old Nectar D'or to clear I suppose.

While I was away last week I was notified that a very special order had arrived at Julio's Liquors. The Glenmorangie Rare Cask 4, 24 year old - over 10 years in ex-bourbon and then 13 years in French oak barriques.

This should be an interesting dram.

Continued thread

There was still more that arrived.

More Glenmorangie - Speakeasy bottle Cask 6813, three The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottlings: 125.4, 125.15, & 125.37, and then three sample bottles - Finealta, Signet, and the 18 year Extremely Rare.

There were also two from Ardbeg - 19 year Traigh Bahn #1 & #3.

I already had #4 - #2 is still in the UK with another auction house and #5 is with a friend in CT as it couldn't be shipped to MA. #6 I'm still on the hunt for. I've been picking these up at auction for well below MSRP.

I recently received many months worth of auction winnings that I'd been building up in storage. I'm glad I shipped them when I did, as now most of the auction houses have paused all shipments to the US while they figure out the tariff situation. I have other bottles still in the UK & EU and who knows when I'll be able to ship those - and if it'll cost me more now.

There was a bit of Compass Box - a Mariage Single Marrying Cask, an Eleuthera, The Peat Monster (second bottling I believe), The Peat Monster Reserve Edition magnum, the inaugural 2006 Flaming Heart release (the last one I was missing), Transistor, and The Promise Blend.

And then a bunch of Glenmorangie - three vintage releases from 1974, 1975, and 1979, The Culloden Bottle, 1990 Single Cask #5979 First-Fill Bourbon, 18 year White Rum finish, and Distillery Exclusive Cask 1784.

We've been keeping it a secret, but Jess & I are proud to announce a new member of our household.

Meet Morgan.

😂

Thank you to the good folks at Glenmorangie / LVMH, and particularly Jun Xi Chen for making this happen after I half-jokingly posted about wanting one.
