Joseph Nuthalapati :fbx:<p>Today, I met a FreedomBox for Villages volunteer, Satya at a local conference. It was pleasant surprise to know that they have recently deployed a community Wi-Fi network in a remote island village in the Narmada river that barely has cellular phone signals. The village only has an elementary school (until class 4), so the main thing they needed to provide was Moodle with some K-12 educational content.</p><p>Another non-profit might set up satellite Internet in the near future.</p><p><a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/FreedomBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreedomBox</span></a> <a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/Moodle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Moodle</span></a></p>
Joseph Nuthalapati :fbx:<p>Continuing my streak of fixing minor UX issues in <a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/FreedomBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreedomBox</span></a>. <br>Did a couple of them today. <br>Started adding a screenshot in each merge request description so that interested members of the community can also get an idea of what it is about, without reading the code.</p>
Joseph Nuthalapati :fbx:<p>I have some free time to spend on <a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/FreedomBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreedomBox</span></a> this month.</p><p>I am not doing anything big. Not adding new apps or big features.</p><p>I am mostly focusing on smoothing out the rough edges, like fixing bugs and making usability improvements.</p>
Joseph Nuthalapati :fbx:<p>Didn't get a 3-day streak, but did another merge request today for a small UI improvement. <a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/FreedomBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreedomBox</span></a></p>
Joseph Nuthalapati :fbx:<p>Fixed another small issue that I created 6 years ago. Hope I can make a streak out of this. 🤞 </p><p><a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/FreedomBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreedomBox</span></a></p>
Joseph Nuthalapati :fbx:<p>Submitted a couple of bug fixes for TiddlyWiki and Feather Wiki apps on <a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/FreedomBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreedomBox</span></a> today.<br>They both have the same configuration, so it's the same fix for both. Eventually, I'll get around to fixing the code duplication. Maybe. Some day.<br>DRYness increases complexity sometimes. It's not always worth doing.</p>
Steven Sandoval<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@haraldgeyer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>haraldgeyer</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mas.to/@econetwork" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>econetwork</span></a></span> Aside from the offline editing feature, <a href="https://twit.social/tags/MediaWiki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MediaWiki</span></a> satisfies those requirements. I get offline support for my own personal wiki by running it not in the Cloud but on a local <a href="https://twit.social/tags/Freedombox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Freedombox</span></a> machine in my local network (e.g. when my ISP occasionally goes down). In other words, “offline” edits could be done so long as you are physically close to a community center's Wi-Fi where your wiki is running. <a href="https://mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Joseph Nuthalapati :fbx:<p>Upgraded my home <a href="https://social.masto.host/tags/FreedomBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreedomBox</span></a> today.</p><p>Moved the data from a Pioneer edition device to an old Dell laptop I used mostly for FreedomBox development. It's probably from 2017 or so, but the SSD is only two years old, so the data should be safe. Hope I will do a better job with backups this time.</p><p>It's kinda overpowered though. Core i7 (2 cores with 2 hyperthreads each) and 16 GB memory. Disk is 450 GB. I think it can comfortably run 4 FreedomBoxes if deployed as VMs instead.</p>
