doefom<p>Just starting out with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/freecad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freecad</span></a> and it's way too powerful, feels nearly impossible to be open source. Love that people build such complex software and just put it out there for others to use. Thanks so much <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@FreeCAD" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>FreeCAD</span></a></span> !

Michael Knudsen %n%n%n%n<p>Version 1 of my motor mount is looking pretty good.</p><p>A few issues:<br>1) It needs to be a bit taller so I can fit a bigger gear on it<br>2) The bottom mounting holes need deeper countersinks<br>3) The middle mounting hole should be moved down into the curved cutout for the motor so the bracket is mounted on a plane instead of on a line</p><p>All in all this shouldn't be more than an hour's work before printing.</p><p>However, it is probably time to start doing a complete assembly to figure out how big gears I need. <a href="https://bsd.network/tags/FreeCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeCAD</span></a> is pretty awesome.</p>

Chris Huck :freecad: :ubuntu:<p>A friend of mine has a bunch of bicycle bearing press tools that he wanted organized in one of his toolbox drawers so they weren’t all loose and difficult to dig through when he needed one. Thanks to me, he’s aware of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/gridfinity" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>gridfinity</span></a>, and he asked me if I could make holders for all of them. I used the Gridfinity and Part Design workbenches in <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FreeCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FreeCAD</span></a> to model them up. I was going to deliver them today, but unfortunately, their household is down with the flu.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/3dPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>3dPrinting</span></a></p>

My usual trick of zooming into every joint a bunch to see if the nodes split apart isn't working. What should have been a quick simple tweak has now turned into reverting and re-drafting the same change 3 different ways and I can't figure out how I'm managing to break this simple shape.</p>

FreeCAD<p>FreeCAD Day 2025<br />Each year on the Friday before the FOSDEM event, FreeCAD has held one of it’s “FreeCAD Days” where, after working for a few days directly on FreeCAD in a hackathon style, the day is set up as an Un-conference meaning any presentation or activity can be attached to the agenda. It’s a lovely format that allows for really interesting things to happen.<br /> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/freecad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>freecad</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/cad" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>cad</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/cam" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>cam</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/bim" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>bim</span></a><br /><a href="https://blog.freecad.org/2025/02/16/freecad-day-2025/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">blog.freecad.org/2025/02/16/fr</span><span class="invisible">eecad-day-2025/</span></a><br /><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Events" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Events</span></a></p>
rusty<p>Not sure if this is a bug in <a href="https://ma.zcx.cc/tags/FreeCAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeCAD</span></a>, or simply not fully implemented yet. Working on making a traverse drive core, core turns either cw or ccw, and a grove in the surface of the core moves an index from near one end, to near the other, then back, in a continuous cycle. I've mad a 'rough' version with a triangle profile, but when attempting to create a smooth(er) sollution, where I start with a portion of a circle being cut out, starting with a 90 degree groove, at top and bottom, \</p>
