There two ways.
1) An old laptop with BIOS only needs MBR disk partition and no UEFI. You need to change that, means reinstall.
2) When I moved my old disk from an BIOS device to UEFI device I had the issue, disabled EFI in BIOS and had MBR instead of GTP (not GTP
For getting EFI after 1 year in legacy mode I made a clean convert. You need to check if its supported or mode by the mainboard.
That are the keywords for search.
To hard reset your laptop remove the battery for 10 min, then put itback and boot into BIOS.
There change to legacy or UEFI mode and all your settings.
