Man using has changed my life. is where my home is and hopefully it stays here for a long time. Here I don't get bombarded by rage articles, Politics, toxicity, and generally only see what I want to see. That is how social media should be and should have stayed. Please never change this, I absolutely love my timeline being cats mixed with a little bit of tech and memes.

A few months ago, due to some drama going on at , I decided to move elsewhere. I made a mistake, because I didn't give Fosstodon admins a proper chance to turn things around, and they clearly have. I regret jumping ship too soon, and I've decided to own up to my mistake and move back, as the Fosstodon ideals align with my own ideals very much.

@Gina I'm very excited about github.com/defnull/fediwall

With this software it is so easy to set up a fediwall which makes excellent screens about meetings

Or just an cool way to follow a hashtag and you do not even need a Mastodon account for it

e.g. #fosstodon with egonw.github.io/INOSC/?tags=fo

(that version by default shows posts about the International Network of Open Science Communities)

Hi

Recently, I've seen all the Proton controversies (yes, I was off tech news for a time), and since then, I've been wanting to migrate my email account.

Any recommendations?

I really went from frantically looking for alternatives to joining the team and making it the central hub of my online presence.

@MehdiKhamassi Our CoC requests that users on use tools like tagging or content warnings to allow people to filter content. We insist on extra care for distressing content for a very good reason.

Social media is often unhealthy. Folks often need filtering to avoid distressing stuff, generally to have some breathing space from the 24hr news cycle.

The policy exists to allow folks to choose what works for their own mental health, while still allowing a meaningful discussion to happen.

I'll let you in in a little secret: you can live a totally happy & balanced life w/o dipping your toes too far in . The one exception I personally make is for (a instance) where I follow a few people, plus another handful of tech-related hashtags.
Other than that, I get my tech/programming news from specific weekly newsletters that I actively choose to subscribe to, which still allow me to keep a pulse on what's happening in the tech sphere. 1/2

I was reading the new rules and regs here at and it's a good remit I think.

Underlying the specifics there's a recognition that this is becoming a larger and taking on the responsibility that comes with that.

That seems like a reaosnable position.
