It helps, because it allows us to unthink the necessity of violence[...] But it helps more, because it indicates that there is a way to act in a violent world which assumes the ontological priority of non-violence, and this way is called ‘forgiveness of sins’.”

EpiscoGrrlToday’s sermon has me thinking differently about my earlier reflection on <a href="https://episcodon.net/tags/forgiveness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#forgiveness</a> & <a href="https://episcodon.net/tags/reconciliation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#reconciliation</a> Is looking for a demonstration of change another way of saying that I will only forgive & reconcile only with people “like” me? If so, that means I am judging who does & does not deserve forgiveness. Which is not what today’s Gospel calls on me to do. Neither is it following the example of Jesus who looked down from the cross & prayed God to forgive those who put him there. Forgiving everyone, whether they have changed or not, is not easy. It is, however, what we are called to do.
