@forgejo My personal highlight of this release: You can now use your #fediverse handle in #markdown documents and it will be marked up as a link to your user profile (or group, etc.).

I'm excited about the future, when mentioning fediverse handles will actually be federated and will send notifications everywhere!

At least, this pushed Organic Maps, to go out of Github and to made their own #ForgeFed instance, and looks like it progressed a lot since this fork. Change in CoMaps, are mainly on stylesheet, time will say which one will progress faster, but most main contributors of Organic Maps are still on it. Only Pastk, the main author of the fork is on the fork, that made a putsch like action on Github OrganicMaps account, blocking main author, as far I seen.

okies, decided, today's the day... gonna start moving my repositories to codeberg... notabug.org's too consistently inconsistently available. n_n a little sad. mmmmmmuch fondness for notabug.org. ... i wonder, if i leave the repository off the end of the url in codeberg's migration tool... does it allow migrating everything in one go? :3

or should i skip codeberg, and go full forgejo? :)

Crisis averted, #GitLab reopened the epic on #ActivityPub / #ForgeFed implementation. :)

They made it clear, though, that they're not going to do it themselves in any foreseeable future, their "current focus isn't in this area", so it's up to the community to implement it. As I mentioned in the issue, I won't be able to come back to it until I'm done bootstraping the business I'm working on, so anyone who wants to see it done faster should feel free to jump in.

And #forgejo already has a level of #ActivityPub federation support, like for federated stars:

Hopefully with @forgefed adoption on the roadmap too, where this open standard supported by @NGIZero has been significantly progressed, but needs implementers in active feedback loops to refine and mature the specs.

Yes! Among others. Delightful developments are underway. Not just in #Gitlab and #Forgejo but more code #forge softwares to follow.

🌱 As you likely know and with great help of @NGIZero - and @nlnet - the protocol extension of #ActivityPub called @forgefed is maturing and evolving.

💎 The curated #fediverse experience list taxonomy has a #SocialCoding section with #FOSS projects that are adopting #ForgeFed specs. See:

+1 for #codeberg

but all "auxiliary" data—issues, prs, tasks, everything that's not `.git`—remains pretty much siloed within a particular server. afaik no forge lets you export those

otoh there is "import": repo mirroring in #gitea/ #forgejo works well. afterwards you set the repo to be a non-mirror. won't help migrate a community tho—it's instantaneous switchover

the real game-changer would be #forgefed forgefed.org/ but no news on that🙁

I'm just curious, as someone who loves the idea of "Github but open and activitypub", roughly how far off would you say we are from being able to follow and comment on issues via Mastodon?

I'm not even looking for a date estimate, just a sense of if we're at the beginning of a very long road, or we're super close and almost there or...?

> though Codeberg does like to add more functionality to it for practical reasons, most significantly federation, basically making a Git Forge Fediverse

@Codeberg and the Forgejo devs have been enthusiastic supporters of forge federation. But efforts to get it working precede the forking of Gitea to create Forgejo.

I first started hearing about ForgeFed and other federation projects around the time BorgSoft assimilated GritHub.
