I'm attaching a story about Facebook, but any social media platform with substantial business in India is likely to engage in this bullshit.

I'm not surprised. If a multinational has interests in multiple countries, it is going to look at its bottom line and privilege the ideology of the most regressive country.

This is yet another reason why the fediverse is superior. If India wants to police the servers within its borders, they can have at it. They cannot touch the servers abroad.

We are all equipped with #choice. I came here for the #conversation, spent 2 minutes in the #confrontation, learned about #block and #mute and here we are.

I think #guidance on happy use of the Fediverse makes sense. Ppl coming here after years on #Farcebook and #xitter (pronounced Shitter in deference to #president #Xi), have gotten used to being torn apart over an asterisk or a comma.

Here it takes a moment to realise those people aren't here. They are still on #shitter.

Many folks, me included, didn't even know there was a word for #ablism for example. I do now and try to keep it in mind, simply because #someone pointed out of to me.

These #discussions can become the core of what the #Fediverse is so about.

Every now and then I want to @mention someone I know, who I remember interacting with here at some point, but I can't remember their fediverse address. Every time I try, I remember the existing #fediverse apps aren't good at helping me distinguishing my friends from the random strangers I've casually chatted with here.

This is why we're nowhere near ready to replace FarceBook. Although I'm hopeful that newer projects like Bonfire might get us closer...

@MissingThePt We already had that a few decades ago. All the chat services like ICQ, Jabber, Gadu Gadu, MSN and a good half dozen of others were perfectly usable via 3rd party programs, and there were some good ones which supported all of those services.

Then #farcebook came.

I called out a white supremacist recruiting line on #facebook in a public group. The #bonehead responded noting things I'd privately shared, as an apparent form of threat.

Not only is #farcebook privacy poorly guarded, but they don't even take seriously their complicity in an implied threat to me from a Neo-Nazi.

Done with that shite.

Hope all is well with you? Michelle has had her #Farcebook account hacked and whoever it is, they want £100 off her for her to have it back..... This is just bonkers and finding a way other than #Twitter to get in touch with them to sort it out is ludicrous.....
