Physical Review ResearchQuantum watch and its intrinsic proof of accuracyWe have investigated the rich dynamics of complex wave packets composed of multiple high-lying Rydberg states in He. A quantitative agreement is found between theory and time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy experiments. We show that the intricate time dependence of such wave packets can be used for investigating quantum defects and performing artifact-free timekeeping. The latter relies on the unique fingerprint that is created by the time-dependent photoionization of these complex wave packets. These fingerprints determine how much time has passed since the wave packet was formed and provide an assurance that the measured time is correct. Unlike any other clock, this quantum watch does not utilize a counter and is fully quantum mechanical in its nature. Any #DataScience people here?

I have a huge #BeaconDB dataset here, recorded with #NeoStumbler.

I would like to play around with it a bit, display densities of radio devices on a map.

I know #QGis, is it reasonably easy to import a CSV file there, assign the coordinates to some columns etc?

Alternatively I know a bit of #R, but #RStudio is #Electron now, so that could get a hassle XD

Btw, there is a #Fedora #COPR for R-Cran packages, how is the situation on #NixOS?

To me, the best things about it are the keyboard and the screen.

I also like the fact that it's currently my slowest computer, not counting a Raspi zero W (not zero 2) sitting on a shelf somewhere, or assorted microcontroller boards here and there.

If it doesn't run well on the PBP, then to me, it's just not good software.

Signal (and I guess any #Electron apps) are particularly absymal.

So I was just switching between the zen browser (firefox based) window and the firefox window, reorganizing my tabs while the YouTube music web app running in a separate firefox runtime was playing music and as I was switching to my Obsidian (electron app) window I decided to open VS Code (electron app) and then

guess what happened

'Memory usage: 100% 16 GB/16 GB, Swap usage: 100% 4 GB/4 GB'

only a second later and my computer completely froze up

I barely managed to close VS Code and prevent the whole system from crashing

What has this world come to if 20 gigabytes are not enoigh for an operating system and 5 programs.

I did not know yet this is a thing. I am scared, curious and impressed at the same time. 😅

I mostly enjoyed PHP and Laravel in the past. 😊 From a certain perspective, I see the value as enablement for developers delivering to new environments while sticking to their stack.

On the other hand, this is even further in the direction of something being used in a way it was not designed for, resulting in a whole lot of other problems. 🫣

I've been suspecting that something faster and "easier" than #LaTeX (no hard feelings: TeX is enormously old and has lasted really long!) must be possible -- thank you for confirming that.

I get the utility of web-based collaboration, but ... I really really want a desktop GUI because sending each button press across half the world is *so wasteful*, not to mention privacy issues. The only maintained desktop app costs money, looks spartan and seems to use #Electron 🙄
