EpiscoGrrl<p>Yesterday was the <a href="https://episcodon.net/tags/Episcopal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Episcopal</span></a> Diocese of <a href="https://episcodon.net/tags/Nebraska" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nebraska</span></a> ‘s Day of Advocacy at the State Legislature. About 25 people, including our Bishop Scott Barker, Canon of the Ordinary, Liz Easton, multiple clergy, & lay persons from around the state gathered in <a href="https://episcodon.net/tags/Lincoln" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lincoln</span></a> to support LB 319 which would change provisions relating to SNAP benefits within the state. In particular this bill would correct a punitive measure stemming from the war on drugs of the 1990s that prohibits persons convicted of drug related offenses who had served their sentences or are currently on parole from receiving SNAP benefits. We met with 18 of our senators to urge them to support this bill and stop punishing families, especially children, for mistakes made by a single member of the family. This bill will not add to Nebraska’s budget, as SNAP is federally funded. It will, in the face of rising food costs, help & support families across the state, as well as helping reduce the chances of recidivism <a href="https://episcodon.net/tags/DioNeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DioNeb</span></a> <a href="https://episcodon.net/tags/NebraskaPolitics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NebraskaPolitics</span></a></p>
