Sam Howell<p>I'm very close to deciding to ditch <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/LineageOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LineageOS</span></a> and <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/customROMs" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>customROMs</span></a> generally in favour of the stability and reduced hassle of a new and supported <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Android</span></a> phone. Recent changes seem to indicate <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Samsung" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Samsung</span></a> and co are making it even harder for custom ROMs and may soon completely block their use. I feel like their days are numbered. One of the main reasons I'm debating this is the ongoing banking apps issue; they're increasingly fussy about unlocked bootloaders etc.</p>

Generic Person<p>I have an old Android device, the LG Tribute Dynasty, that I want to see if I can somehow get a custom ROM working with it or something. It is a MediaTek device, but both the AOSP and kernel sources are available at the Internet Archive (I remember uploading them).</p><p>What's neat is that the device can be rooted because it's vulnerable to the MTK-su exploit (the device never received updates beyond November 1, 2019). Looking for a replacement that has an up to date de-googled custom rom for it, decent display, decent cameras, non-laggy soc, 90MHz refresh rate or above, 5g support, stereo speakers, headphone jack, and microSD card slot, that costs less than $400USd.
