Learned a bit more about Docker Compose from developer colleagues today - aaand I wasn't aware that I can easily select "Docker Compose" as buildpack option for a (private) Git repository on #Coolify.
Hosting craft cms on coolify shouldn't be that hard after all. https://coolify.io/docs/knowledge-base/docker/compose
Good morning Fedi friends!
After my self-hosting woes (I had to delete my ready-to-go Ghost blog on my site because it was on Debian/mariaDB... after 3 weeks of work on it, then failed to properly install Ghost with command lines on Ubuntu) I am ready to dive into my new VPS again. Turns out, after 48 hours you forget about the frustrations you felt.
It's a new day
A couple of things to report: within 5 minutes of publishing my previous toot (see above), I got TWO offers to help me analyze/fix what went wrong with my Ghost installation over a call. By two people I really admire on here. This is the BEST, most generous community
Now, because of time zone differences and scheduling issues I have yet to have that phone call. But this morning when I woke up I poked around my VPS dashboard and saw that I can do the following things:
wipe the contents of my Ubuntu VPS (the one with the botched Ghost installation) and re-install any OS I'd like... at the touch of a button.
re-install on the VPS an OS with a panel, like #Coolify or #Dokploy or several others.
Since I'm a Linux newbie who got really frustrated looking around my botched Ghost installation the first time around I would like to manage my system with an interface that simplifies my job.
So my question is: what's your opinion of Coolify? Yay or nay?
Thanks in advance!
My move to #Coolify at home continues.
Raspberry Pi 5 is fine but disk speed was limiting it.
NVMe to the rescue.
Pimoroni NVMe base board with a Netac 256GB NVMe.
I just put Cloudflare in front of all my self hosted sites. That was on the to do list for quite some time!
Next I need to figure out how to do 404 redirects in Coolify for my Eleventy sites.
It is always nice when the problems that occurred in the night resolves themselves.
Thanks to the awesome #opensource tool #coolify

Just had a brief look into #coolify Discord today, someone tries to setup Codeigniter v4 (with nixpacks) https://discord.com/channels/459365938081431553/1328392976728068116. A setup guide for PHP apps would be really awesome. Here is a guide for Laravel + Coolify with Docker-approach, not nixpacks: https://saasykit.com/blog/deploying-laravel-applications-with-coolify-a-complete-guide #php
I am slowly moving all my #selfhosted services to #Coolify. It's way better than handrolling nginx configs and janky proxy setups, which is what I've been doing for the past 5 years...
Janky proxy setup has to remain until I am somehow able to fully migrate over to Coolify's proxy. Need to figure out how to pass websockets through traefik.
#coolify is pretty cool

"What did you do over the break?"
"I moved everything to my own hosting!”
...
I mean, that's hardly everything and it's far from the most important thing (or set of things) that I did, but it is a thing.
Well hello there bad #Coolify beta update. Hooray for backups.

Day 39 of building and shipping : One day after the release of PHP 8.4, I decided to upgrade our Dockerfiles already.
** Core Coolify development:**
Opened 1 PR that fixes a routing issue - it should have been a quick little PR, but it took me many hours to complete
and it got much bigger than I would have hoped.
Opened 1 PR to fix some readme icons and links
Fixed some issues with my Dockerfile PR and upgraded to PHP 8.4

Using #Coolify #Docker has been easy (but slow), simple (with underlying cruft), containerised (and obese)
I miss when downtime was measured in milliseconds
The biggest problem with #coolify is Cloudflare Tunnels and DNS.
Coolify is a very ambitious project and I understand that it's complicated to get things right, however.
It's so hard to just set up my custom domain with SSL, especially with their GitLab source.
I am grokking Coolify much better now that brainfog has cleared but it's still a mess.
