Brett Kosinski<p>I really don't understand why I'm finding <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/Cloudpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cloudpunk</span></a> so compelling. The writing and voice acting is pretty mid. It's entire mechanic is basically fetch quests. The environment can feel a little repetitive. And yet, hopping in my HOVA and flying around Nivalis, or popping out and hunting for punch cards, is somehow so chill and satisfying. Maybe it's the cool visuals or the synthwave soundtrack... I dunno. It's a pleasant mystery to me. And did I mention it plays great on the <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/SteamDeck" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SteamDeck</span></a>? <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/gaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gaming</span></a></p>

Where Cyberpunk does triumph with its relative realistic Graphics, Worldbuilding (thanks to it's Pen And Paper roots) and the writing of the characters, Cloudpunk excels with its uniquely Minecraftlike Pixel art, a gigantic city to explore, in a hovercar and on foot, a fully fleshed protagonist and the feeling of being lost and just a part in a machine. Also their game might have next to fallout 4 the best Noir Detective inspired private investigator.
The oppressed feeling of a dystopian city also comes through in SynthesIA, which of course being a graphic novel has a very similar style in a very different way.
Every "Game" also succeeded in a field I dearly missed from Bethesda games since Skyrim. It feels like your decisions matter. Maybe even a bit more in SynthesIA, despite being an choose your own adventure like light.

So I recently picked up my pending 3. playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 again this time as a corpo V. after I finished mist of the beautiful Cloudpunk by Ion lands which sadly has no DLC on consoles (I bought the game 2 times Xbox Series and Switch), I don't want to buy the game on PC just for the DLC but this may change if it's successor Nivalis drops. Sadly my Graphics Card broke this week now running a 2012 onboard graphics which is... hard to describe. Also pulled 2 all nighter sessions on SynthesIA, a Yuri Graphic Novel Thriller "Game."
My writing endeavors took a hit by this but I managed to get almost 10.000 words done.
Still not sure I recommend that "Game" to everyone. It's most times still images & after finishing it it's not as neon as the others more dark red & kinda confusing. Not bad at all but one really needs to like minimalist choose your own adventure books to enjoy it.

Okay. Maybe it's not Firefox. Maybe Cloudpunk is just weirdly intermittent in what framerate it runs at.

Two runs with Firefox: Slow and chuggy.
Run without Firefox: Slow and chuggy.
Quit Steam and run again: Fractionally less slow.
Quit Steam. Start Steam. Run from within steam. 60fps!
Continue playing. Go through a few areas: Suddenly drops to 20fps.

Oh, and yesterday, the map was lightning fast, whereas before it was always slow (even when the main game was fast)

🤷
