Magnus Carlsen scores a perfect 9/9 at the Grenke Freestyle chess open. An amazing achievement akin to Bobby Fisher scoring 11/11 in the 1963/64 US Chess Championship:

Revealing Pieces
1. On your turn, you may reveal one or more hidden squares on your back rank by selecting a gray square.
2. When you reveal a square, you choose one piece from your available pool to assign to that square.
3. Revealing a piece does not count as your move.
4. Once revealed, a piece’s identity is fixed and cannot be unrevealed.
Forced Reveals
1. If an unrevealed square is threatened by an opponent’s piece, that square must be revealed immediately.
2. If your move causes an unrevealed square to become threatened, you must reveal that square immediately.
Revealing the Final Hidden Squares
1. When only two hidden squares remain on your back rank, you must reveal them together on the same turn. This rule prevents leaving a lone unrevealed square that might create ambiguity with the forced-reveal rules.
After defeating the world numer 1 Magnus Carlsen in the semifinals, Vincent Keymer now took the lead in the final against world number 2 Fabiano Caruana. Amazing performance by the 20 year old in the Freestyle chess grand slam!
For those of you that can't wait for the World Chess Championship to start, there's a #Chess960 match on 21 and 22 November at 12 GMT between #MagnusCarlsen and #FabianoCaruana. A rematch of the 2018 World #Chess #Championship.
@sigmasternchen@comfy.social @aronia@tech.lgbt Personally I'm a fan of Arimaa-style opening: On the first move, the first player arranges all their pieces however they want in the first two rows, then the second player arranges their pieces however they want.
The advantages are:
a)No luck,
b)There are too many openings for opening theory to be practical,
c)The second player gets the advantage of arranging their pieces in response to the first player, which helps balance out the first-move advantage.
I could also see limiting each player to choosing from among the FRC/Chess960 positions to make it "feel more like chess."

In response to the screenshot complaining that the openings have been analyzed to death:
Yeah, that's why #chess960 was invented.
Kiss goodbye to your opening books, my friend! MUAHAHAHaHaHahahaha ...
Game 1 of the final ended in a draw in the G.O.A.T. challenge between Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana. Who will win tomorrow? Follow it live:

I think this is because #chess960 is doubly exciting live, but afterwards it is hard for a #chess player to relate to the games when they have no opening relevance as an artifact, despite them being so fascinating as they unfold. Fairly sure this is why many don't see the point of the variant. But this will change when #FischerRandom becomes normal...
Quite depressing when the big boys manage to make #chess960 #FischerRandom 'freestyle' look as stodgy as good old #classical #chess. At least there's always a new position next time...
I really enjoy watching #FischerRandom #chess960 live, and _especially_ seeing top players full of the enthusiasm and glee of discovery from the first moves that #chess lost long ago. But I have very little desire to play through most of the games afterwards...
