In humans, exposure to #PFAS can cause damage to the liver & immune system, & the #chemicals have also been linked to low birth weight, birth defects & developmental delays as well as increased risk of some prostate, kidney & testicular #cancers.
In recent years, states across the country have sued PFAS manufacturers, accusing them of widespread environmental contamination. The suits have also charged that the companies hid evidence of the dangers of PFAS for decades.

#PFAS are a class of nearly 15,000 #chemicals that are highly resistant to heat, water & oil, & persist in the #environment, earning them the name “#ForeverChemicals.” They are found in everyday items like nonstick cookware, water-repellent clothing, stain-resistant carpets & cosmetics, & are also used widely in firefighting foam.

They enter the environment—& #DrinkingWater supplies—in myriad ways, including from spills, landfills, factories & wastewater treatment plants.

Under the deal, the companies are required to fund the #cleanup of 4 former #IndustrialSites, create a remediation fund of up to $1.2 billion & set aside a reserve of $475 million to ensure that the cleanup will be completed if any of the companies go bankrupt or default.

The agreement brings #justice to “#CorporatePolluters who, for decades, have knowingly contaminated our #land & #water with #PFAS & other dangerous #chemicals,” said #NewJersey AG Matthew J. Platkin in a statement….

A Belgian company unveils a breakthrough process to decontaminate soil.

The head of Haemers Technologies claims to have developed a method that eliminates forever chemicals (PFAS) by heating soil with an oxidation technique.

He aims to eventually offer his solution worldwide.
