What allows them to do so much better than earlier systems? Do they come with a cost in solving other sorts of problems? In the case of OpenAI-IMO, do the "new techniques" employed at all explain the stylistic weirdness?</p><p>- What is the scope of these systems? Do they generalize to other kinds of mathematical problems, to scientific problems, to more general classes of problems? Or can they be extended to deal with these? Or would they be a useful component in a larger system that dealt with these?</p><p>- What was the cost per problem, both for inference time (clearly high) and any domain-specific expertise required for training/augmentation etc and what would the economics of using these models be when it is released?</p><p>- Are these system compatible with tools such as computational tools, coding, and web search?</p><p>- What did the two systems do with problem 6, the one they couldn’t correctly answer? Did they give up, did they produce a partial answer that was in the right direction, or did they hallucinate a nonsensical answer?</p><p>Overall, the new work certainly might be exciting. The first major problem is its propensity to spread fake news, especially through its integration into the social media platform X, also owned by Musk. Like other generative AIs, Grok suffers from bias, hallucinations and inaccuracies.</p><p>But the absence of ethical and factual guidelines in this “censorship-free” conversational robot can produce absurd results, such as realistic images of Musk and Mickey Mouse killing children or promoting the narrative of white genocide in South Africa.</p><p>The idea of anti-woke AI also dramatically amplifies misinformation in the name of freedom of expression, with no attached responsibility to correct it.</p><p>A second problem arises when the richest man in the world rallies behind Donald Trump’s second administration.</p><p>Musk’s high-profile involvement in Trump’s presidential campaign, his adherence to the reactionary ideology of Dark MAGA, his apparent Nazi salute on Jan. 20 and his support for the Alternative for Germany party (AfD) all testify to his shift to the far right of the political spectrum.<br>(. . .)</p><p>A third problem arises when the interests of the private and public sectors converge to an extent that can be described as collusion or even corruption. Musk was hired as a special employee of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to make massive cuts in the federal administration.
