Shotgun Seamstress<p>I wrote “Okada Boys: Is there punk in Nigeria?” for my zine <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ShotgunSeamstress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ShotgunSeamstress</span></a> in 2015. It was a short but meandering exploration of subculture in the country my parents immigrated from. </p><p>At the time, I wasn’t aware of any actual <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/punk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>punk</span></a> bands in <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Nigeria" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nigeria</span></a>, so I wrote about a stud-and-leather wearing pop star named <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/CharlyBoy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CharlyBoy</span></a> who is famous for not only his music but his unorthodox lifestyle. At the time I wrote the article, he had been in the news for his work organizing okada (motorcycle taxi drivers). </p><p>Today, a decade later, I finally found out about a <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NigerianPunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NigerianPunk</span></a> band through <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://masto.ai/@cybeardjm" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>cybeardjm</span></a></span> called “1 Last Autograph.” They formed in 2014 and are now defunct: <a href="https://m.soundcloud.com/1lastautograph" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">m.soundcloud.com/1lastautograp</span><span class="invisible">h</span></a><br><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/zine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zine</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/zines" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zines</span></a></p>
