On April 24th we had our April 2025 edition of the Elixir & Erlang Meetup Munich, kindly hosted by SQUER in their Munich office.

We've had Marcelo De Polli presenting a talk regarding rapid prototyping with Livebook, with lots of live-coding showing us an example of how to explore a stock API and quickly creating a small application on top of it, and Igor Spiridonov sharing his team's journey in migrating from overcomplicated Java-based microservices to one Elixir monolith - sharing the good, the bad and learnings!

Thanks to everyone that participated, and especially to SQUER for providing us with their amazing space, food and drinks!

I hope to see you all next time around June!

After I finally got the beam out of the garden, I hooked up the other end and turned it 90 degrees so it can go thick end first towards the gate behind which I want it to be.

But before I can pull it the rest of the way, I had to tidy up the other beams spread out in the yard. Luckily our tractor fits between fruit trees, sheds and old bee hives and I could pull them all into a pile, one at a time. One shattered!

This took the rest of the day 😓

Got Mr. Beam moved. Schlepped a long wire rope from the grain store, massive 20mm ø. An hour undoing a stupid knot in the middle of it with steel spikes and hammer. Long enough to reach a distant spruce with the 3 ton hand winch.

It moved but this pace got boring fast, so I used the tractor to pull sideways at the midpoint of the tensioned rope. That moved it much faster!

The soil there was much more solid, so I could pull it by tractor the rest of the way.

A stubborn concrete beam is connected by a chain around it to a long, thick wire rope that leads off into the distance to a far away tree near a house. Lots of churned up half frozen mud is all around.
At the other end, a thick cargo strap is led around a tree and connected to a 3 ton hand winch that pulls the wire rope with a short chain extension. The rope is tensioned and suspended in the air.
Mr. Beam, now completely out of the garden, resting alongside a fence before being rehitched to get pulled from the other end. The sun shines through some puffy clouds.

It's made in full stack Gleam, using the magnificent Lustre framework for the frontend. Also my first app using Tailwind.

Very bare bones right now, I'll add some customisation features later.

Giving @davepolaschek's suggestion a try. The T-40 wheel I found in the garage is getting some use as uh, round lever? What do you even call this.

It kinda worked. Well, it didn't budge as I was pulling, but when it fell over while under tension it levered the beam out of the ground sideways and a little forward.

Still refuses to go further, but I'm having a strong coffee and sweets and shall stubbornly continue.

The pesky concrete beam in our garden is now attached with a very beefy chain to a very beefy piece of wire rope. A big tractor steel wheel (sans tyre) is rolled in front of it, with the wire rope leading over the wheel and off to a tractor not depicted here. The ground is churned up from pulling many other concrete beams out of the garden already.
Same arrangement, excep the wheel has fallen over sideways. The wire rope still leads through what used to be its top. The beam however has shifted in the direction of the fallen wheel and left its deep groove for the first time.
The rear end of the beam with a gap that is now about a metric foot longer (we only have metric feet here, sorry, they're about one foot long though). The standard reference foot including boot is next to it. It's a size 44, in case you need to calibrate.
