[Перевод] Современные форматы изображений в Discord: поддержка WebP и AVIF

В течение последнего полугода команда Discord по обслуживанию медиа-инфраструктуры модернизировала конвейер обработки изображений, добавив поддержку анимированных форматов WebP и AVIF. Теперь на платформе можно делиться анимированными картинками WebP и AVIF как в виде прикреплённых файлов, так и в виде вставок. При этом все эмодзи выдаются в виде анимированных WebP — и бесшовно отображаются на любой платформе Discord. Эти изменения были реализованы для того, чтобы повысить качество анимации и воспроизведения роликов на всех платформах. При этом одновременно резко уменьшается размер файлов, и поэтому их загрузка ускоряется!

Since it is kinda new, in comparison, there is room for improvements and better use of hardware accelerating regarding decoding: avifstudio.com/blogs/faq/evalu

Still, the smaller size makes download quicker and, of course, free up bandwidth on internet. So is compensating.

@dubroy Maybe also try out AVIF, which enjoys similar wide support, and in my experience produces even better results for many image types (depending on settings can be slower to compress, but decompression speed is fine)...

I tried uploading an animated PNG file but the @bsky.app converted it to JPEG. I wonder why they did not choose #WEBP? IT has better compression and less lossy (can be lossless). It's widely supported now, not like the new #AVIF (which is better than WEBP). bsky.app/profile/test...

Con mi salto a los 1440p, muchos de mis fondos de escritorio se han quedado obsoletos y lucen borrosos, así que los estoy poniendo al día con #Upscaler, una herramienta que utiliza #Vulkan para escalar imágenes a una mayor resolución a la vez que intenta mantener la calidad visual, y la verdad es que los resultados son más que aceptables.

Los PNG generados por Upscaler los convierto luego en #AVIF con #GIMP para reducir el tamaño de las imágenes. flathub.org/apps/io.gitlab.the

One reason I use a pixelfed instance is so that I do not overwhelm my main instance's storage.

But lately I've taken to just hyper-compressing my images with WebP (and reducing them down to a maximum of 2048 pixels on either axis) instead of posting to PixelFed. ImagePipe is a great FOSS app for automating this.

For the record, I'd much rather use #AVIF over #WebP, but #GoToSocial doesn't support it yet.

Andere Apps durchprobiert, zeigen die Bilder zum Teil gar nicht an.

Da hast ein scharfes, hochaufgelöstes Bild. Und ein modernes Format um die zu speichern. 🤓
Und dann kannst das auf deinem Telefon nur Kartoffel-Qualität angucken. 🥔 🧓🏽

Werd ich wohl auch erst mal bei JPEG bleiben müssen und 5-8x soviel Speicherplatz verbraten? 😭 😐

FFS, why can't Android Gallery Apps read Exif data from AVIF images? 😑

I have the Fossify Gallery¹ on my phone.
It lacks e.g. that editing Photos will greatly reduce their resolution 🫠

Now I started converting my JPGs to AVIF, preserving the Exif data of course.
But tada, it won't read them => sort by capture date won't work 🤷🏼

Tried another one², but won't read them either. 🥲
