#Atari2600 besiegt #Chatgpt im Schach

"Unterdessen machte Ataris bescheidene 8-Bit-Engine einfach ihr Ding. Kein Sprachmodell. Kein Schnickschnack. Nur Brute Force und die Hartnäckigkeit von 1977."

Das #Atari-Schachprogramm kenne ich noch. Ich hatte das damals (ca. 1982) auf meinem #Atari400 als gerade mal 4 K (!) großes ROM-Modul zum Einstecken.

...but what truly started things was my parents looking for "a real computer," which at the time translated into the #Atari800

I swear I can remember the smells of the computer showroom where they made the purchase. My brother (at the mighty age of 8) knew more about things and wanted more from them. My father would have wanted something capable and interesting, and my mother would only have used it for light word processing in those days. Of course with two young brats "play videogames" was probably of the highest concern, to keep us entertained and out of their hair.

I expect the cartrige-swapping and proximity to the 2600 favored this machine over the #Commodore64 at the time. I'm just glad we didn't get the #Atari400 and its membrane keyboard mess.
