Davide Bucci<p>I used my reel to reel recorder as a tape delay in Soupçons, you can hear it in the drum machine track at the very beginning (further processed via a bandpass filter driven almost to self oscillate and a chorus). I created a tape loop that was quite flimsy and the imperfections added a lot to the character 😍<a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/ReelToReel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReelToReel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/MusicProduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MusicProduction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AnalogAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AnalogAudio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RevoxB77" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevoxB77</span></a></p>
Davide Bucci<p>If you are curious to listen to the difference, here is Réminescence bounced back from the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/ReelToReel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReelToReel</span></a> recorder. It is a mp3, unfortunately, but you can compare with a previous toot, that included the digitally produced file. <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AnalogAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AnalogAudio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RevoxB77" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevoxB77</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/MastoArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MastoArt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/MastoMusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MastoMusic</span></a> With the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/dbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dbx</span></a> type I noise reduction active, the dynamic range approaches the 90dB 😳</p>
Davide Bucci<p>And since I like a lot to have some physical medium in my hands when I finish the production of a new piece of <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a>, I transferred Réminescence on tape au 15 ips with dbx type I. I had to install a new reel on a <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/LPR90" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LPR90</span></a> pancake 🧐 I like working with the recorder for a final bounce, even if most of my production chain is digital. <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/ReelToReel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReelToReel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RevoxB77" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevoxB77</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AnalogAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AnalogAudio</span></a></p>

✨ justada :polish_cow:<p>I intend to gift some of my friends the walkman cassette players, since i already gifted them some tapes. I managed to find a pack of three players from the 90s for 25€. All need new belts and two of them had completely trusted battery pins. However after putting new pins, all of them work (at last the radio does). The sound is clear and the lcd displays work as well. Now i need to get those replacement belts 🥰</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/analogaudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>analogaudio</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/cassette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cassette</span></a></p>

Mark Sanders<p>Ortofon Blue cartridge mounted and aligned! My biggest fear of snapping the wire from the connector has been averted. Note tiny needle nose pliers are a must. But there’s a new complication… My tone arm counterweight is now too light so I can’t set tracking force. Hoping a 10g larger weight will solve the problem. Davide Bucci<p>Holy cow! I received some <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/SM900" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SM900</span></a> magnetic <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/tape" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tape</span></a> from <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RTM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RTM</span></a>. I previously used the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/LPR90" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LPR90</span></a> that is similar (but thinner). The SM900 can yield a higher signal, so as a result, the noise is kept quite low during playback. I tried it with a new album I'm preparing in this moment and with 2-track at 15 ips, the results are astounding, even without noise reduction 😎 <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AnalogAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AnalogAudio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RevoxB77" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevoxB77</span></a></p>
Davide Bucci<p>I printed and laminated a label for the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RevoxB77" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevoxB77</span></a> remote control. I like the result 😍 I still have to wire the varispeed circuit. It should not be too difficult, but I need a 4-pin DIN connector that I will order next week. The rest works perfectly, I've been using it for the last few days. <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/3Dprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3Dprint</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AnalogAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AnalogAudio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a></p>
Davide Bucci<p>It’s a remote controller for the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RevoxB77" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevoxB77</span></a> 😍 The circuit is basically only a set of buttons. However it was not trivial to build a connector for the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/recorder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>recorder</span></a> originally an unobtanium Hirschmann WIST-9. I <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/3Dprinted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3Dprinted</span></a> a support, then put pins taken from DIN connectors. It seems to work reliably, time will tell. I still need to wire the speed control circuit, but now I can control the recorder from my chair <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Analogaudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Analogaudio</span></a></p>

I've read about the "pumping" noise artifact of the dbx, and I'd like to know if you are able to listen it in the example. <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AnalogAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AnalogAudio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RevoxB77" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RevoxB77</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/dbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dbx</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/dbx150x" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dbx150x</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/noise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>noise</span></a></p>

Davide Bucci<p>It would help me if you try to do the A/B listening test proposed in the previous toot in this thread. I'm very interested to learn if someone is able to listen to some artifacts or not. By the way, I inspected the inside of the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/dbx150x" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dbx150x</span></a> unit I got and it is a nice sandwich construction. 😍 <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/AnalogAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AnalogAudio</span></a></p>
