Jeff Smith<p>Reading Murakami Haruki’s first book “Hear the Wind Sing” and for some reason suddenly thought of al fresco dining in Japan. I remember multiple people in Japan in the early 90s trying to tell me that Japanese people don’t like eating outdoors. Yet they sit outside, drink, eat and sing under the cherry trees, and rooftop beer gardens were all the rage. But a café with outdoor seating was an anomaly.
