When I joined Microsoft in 2015, the design teams were mostly using Adobe Illustrator.

This was a bit of a step backwards for me because we'd transitioned everyone to Sketch a few years before at Opera Software.

Microsoft caught up and the team eventually switched to Sketch, then to Adobe XD, then finally settled on Figma.

We've been using Figma for a good number of years now, but I personally get curious to check out Sketch again.

@gigapixel

always bugged me how it's easy to mock up any interface in a drawing program, where you have a lot of freedom to tweak things, but can't express yourself with code and have to fucking point and click

and then making it work is a whole another matter - you can't easily do half of the things. it's just putting pixels on a screen according to a set of rules ffs

meanwhile web people are just catching on, with tools like #adobexd, #figma, #canva, #penpot (❤️) ...

"The thing to remember about learning #HTML and #CSS is that they are web standards and will long outlive #Figma, #AdobeXD and #sketch

This article by @piccalilli is pure gold, tried pitching it to my designer colleagues: No reaction 🫠

I recently had to do a re-design in Figma, create tickets in #jira and then implement it.

Got a big compliment from another dev because my tickets had ALL the necessary info. A well written ticket can go a long way, folks

PiccalilliThe time for designers to learn to code is nowWith design tools further commoditising and sanitising expected creative output, the time for designers to be able to stand out is very much here. I think for some, learning to code is a good route for that.

Finally getting around to moving a lot of older files over to that I had archived. Some of these older files had a lot of hacky stuff to get around some of the early missing features (no inner shadow). I had XD during the very early beta days, so kind of sad to see it being shuttered.

Probably move them again to eventually. 🙃

reading this story only further convinces me that #adobexd has no future at #adobe. since i‘m using it for all the #webdesign projects at work, i really feel the need to have my agency move to #figma or #sketch asap.

it‘s a shame how adobe treats xd and the people that rely on it on a daily basis. no significant updates in like a year, no communication regarding the product, nothing. you cannot trust adobe.

Stack DiaryThe Silent End of Adobe XDAs you may already know, back in September 2022 - Adobe announced the acquisition of Figma, one of the world's most loved design collaboration tools. The

I have to admit I am gloating a little bit… my former university started to use #AdobeXD and required/strongly suggested all students use it a while ago, because it was free to use. I thought that decision was very unfortunate back then and used #Sketch before switching to #Figma. Now #Aodbe is sunsetting #XD. It is no longer available as a standalone download and you need a paid subscription to download it as part of CC.
